MI424WR Rev I; factory password does not work.

A couple months ago I upgraded to the new MI424WR Rev I router but login to change the settings; the password on the sticker does not work. Working from a photo of the factory attached decal I have tried a factory reset and tried to login with my computer plugged directly to the router with no other devices attached.

The MOCA works fine and I am able to connect via a wireless device to the internet but cannot get in to the user interface change any settings. When I enter the routers IP I get the login screen as expected, I enter the default admin username but the attached password fails. I have selected “show password” and have verified that I have entered it correctly. After several attempts I get locked out as is normal.

To clarify my internet connects via Cat-6 and Coax is via RG-6 and I have verified the connections are wired; and function correctly.

Is it possible that the attached password is wrong or am I missing something? I cannot find a similar problem here or on other sites. My new router is connected the same as my previous unit and I had no issues with logging in or with any functionality. I thought I’d try here before requesting a new router.

TIA,

Tim

I had to return mine. the replacement worked like a charm. the tech had me put a note on the router explaining the password issue before I sent it back but there's no telling they fixed it. good luck

I suppose it is possible that the password on the label is wrong.  But that is extremely unlikely.

Make sure you type it exactly as on the label.

  • Case sensitive
  • Beware of confusing capital O and number 0; same with number 1 and capital I.
  • Watch for special symbols.
  • Try typing it elsewhere so you can verify what you've typed.  Then cut and paste it into the router login screen.

Thank you.

There are no 1, l, o or 0s in the PW and I have “show password” selected on my login screen so I can see it. I have triple checked entering my PW.

It sounds like you need to contact Customer Support.

Make sure you are looking at router password and not wireless password.  ON my sticker the password is upper right, after the info "User Name admin".

The wireless password (wpa2) is on one of the middle lines and is what your other devices use to connect to the router.  Its not the logon password.

Are you sure the reset to factory defaults worked?

You need to push and hold the reset button for about 10 secons, then when you release it you should see all the lights on the router go off and then gradually come back on.  When the WAN light shows active again then try the password which as everyone says is on the bottom of the router (the side with the rubber feet) and is on the end of the top line which starts with userid is admin.

I'm sure on the factory reset; the router rebooted as expected.

I've made a couple calls to tech support. The first rep told me to use the serial number instead of the admin password. Didn't work. After spending some time with a second rep they are sending me out a replacement router. I'll update once the new unit is installed.

The rep said this issue is a new one on him but asked me to put a note on the old router about the password being incorrect when I send it back.

Thanks for all of your input.

I think I got your old MI424WR rev1.

I've tried the login password many times this afternoon and it doesn't work. I'm pretty good on my tech equipment and never had problem in the past. Typed in the password exactly from the side of my router and it locked me out and said to try later on.

I know this is an old thread, but it's the top result on a google search as I had the same issue.  The issue I had was with the actual password.   It was labeled Password: =XK5.....

I acidentally thought the = sign was not part of the password and was starting with the XK.  Once I took a closer look, I realized the = sign was part of the password. Thought I'd post it in case anyone else has a similar issue.
