I ah received an email from "helpdesk@verizon.net" which asks me to input mu id and password, because Verizon is doing an updatr of the Verizon Account database. This seems to me to be a phishing attack. Can anyone confirm?

Any email claiming to be from Verizon (or just about any other company) that asks for your username and password is a scam. Verizon has that info already; they don't need you to give it to them.
