Quantum G1100 Router suddenly not keeping 5ghz connections

For the past 2 weeks or so, my G1100 router will no longer connect reliably at 5ghz. My devices will connect and then immediately disconnect or refuse to connect at all. If I reboot the router or change anything in the wifi settings that causes the router to reset the wireless, 5ghz will work again for a day or so, but then the same thing will happen. I have tried many different 5ghz channels, but none fix the issue for more than a day or so. I have no issues with 2.4ghz, only 5ghz.  Prior to this problem recently, everything worked fine for over a year. I posted over at DSLReports and one other person has the same issue, but no one has any resolution to the problem.

Has anyone here seen this issue?  Does anyone know if Verizon pushed a firmware update over the last 2 weeks?

I advise everyone to consider being their own Wi-Fi router (Such as Eero Pro 6), disabling the wifi on the G1100 and using it only to feed Fios channel information to the STB. It is ludicrous to pay the exorbitant amount of money Verizon wants for their routers, as apposed to buying you own and have the ability to use them with another provider should Verizon no longer suit your need.

If you look, there are some threads (maybe in tech support forum) about people having issues with 5G wifi.

There are some things to try and make it better.

There is talk about Verizon releasing an update to routers after the first of the year to address this issue.

Add me to the list of folks experiencing this issue. I was away from home from the end of Nov until Dec 19. Started seeing the issue as soon as I was home. So the timeframe, some change in late Nov / early Dec seems to fit. As with others, the 5GHz radio continues to braodcast the SSID, but network status reveals that it has been disconnected. Consequently devices connect but cannot get an IP.

Given the timing and the large number of folks this is happening to, I cannot believe that something wasn't chnaged by Verizon. Even if there was not a firware update, configuration changes are possible, including (I suspect) some configurations that was cannot access through the admin interface.

Come on Verizon! Get this fixed.

For those living with periodic resets until Verizon fixes this...here's a little quicker method of recovery than a full router reboot. It's still a **bleep**, but it limits the impact.

Go to Network Connections, click Advanced (if on Basic view), click on the 5GHz WAP, click Disable, wait, then click Enable. This method has the advantage of not taking the whole network down while the router reboots.

Sorry if I missed this bit of information elsewhere in this thread. I read the first few pages, and last few pages, but there was a chunk in the middle I missed.

I just chatted with VZ support. They are aware of this issue and indicate that it affects all the VZ routers. VZ has escalated the issue to Greenwave for resolution. I assume Greenwave is the firmware provider for the Quantum Gateway. Once VZ gets the firware update it will be pushed automatically. No expected timeframe provided.

In the interim, the only workaround is to move everything off of the 5GHz WAP. Sad, but definitly aligns with what we've all experienced.

I also recommended that they post what they know here. Communications!

Another "victim" chiming in; strange twist though.  I've had all the same symptoms: started just after Thanksgiving, every time I reboot all is well for a few hours, this morning my 5.0 network was "disconnected"...

But a few hours after this morning's reboot it was my 2.4 network that was "disconnected".  I disabled and then re-enabled the 2.4 network (slightly less annoying than a reboot) and all is (temporarily) well again.

Anyway, my main point is that the issue may not be exclusive to th 5.0 network.  Verizon really should share some sort of info/update here.

Also worth mentioning, a Verizon tech came last Sat 12/23 and replaced the router and the "box" outside.  The problem persisted.  I called the tech (he left his number) and he was stumped.  I'd say Verizon should have at least made their techs aware by now.

Just adding to the list. My 5ghz connection disconnects from the internet and the only solution seems to be a reboot

I am also having the same problem with my 5ghz dropping off and only reconnecting after a reboot. 5Ghz stays on but only for a few hours then will not connect.

Any chance this has something to do with the recent FCC ruling on Net Neutrality? Just sayin'.

I NEED VERIZON TO TAKE CARE OF THIS OR I AM LOOKING ELSEWHERE FOR AN INTERNET PROVIDER!

Same problem everyone else has been seeing. I'm not entirely sure how long it's been going on for me since I've got a MOCA adapter that also hosts a wifi network that masked the issue for me. Here's hoping a fix is coming soon...

To that point...My FIOS Extender has also masked the problem for me.  I did go ahead and enable IPv6, and changed the password on the 5 GHz wireless...had no effect...the router is still dropping connections after a few hours.

I've run into the same issue with 5GHz connections dropping, however, changing the wireless security for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz to WPA/WPA2 Mixed mode seems to have fixed things (stable for a few days now).

This has been an ongoing problem for several months.  The 5 G wi-fi network says it can't work.  This is throwing all of my devices on the 2.4 G network.  I have called several times, restarted the router and done a factory reset of the router to no avail.  I called last on 12/23/17 and I was informed that this is a "known network issue."  I want to know how it can take Verizon so long to solve a known issue.  Or, as I suspect, it is a problem with my router and Verizon is too cheap to send me a new one.

When I called Verizon Tech support a few nights ago the tech i spoke with said this is a known issue with the latest firmware update on the router and the manufacturer is working on a resolution.  When i asked for a date when it would be available, initially they didn't have a date for me, but upon asking for them to notify me when the update is available, they said it is expected by January 6th.

I've had this probably at least the whole month of December. Only device on 5G has been my Chromecast Ultra, everything else on the slower band. All of December, when I'd try to use Chromecast it said it couldn't find the 5G network (different SSID then the other one). The Ultra model recommends only using 5G because of the 4k content. When it fails to find network, so does my phone or any other devices I browse for local networks on. Reboot of router brings back up, but is inconvenient. Signal strength is good after reboot, and Auto or manual channels don't resolve. The 5G just seems to randomly go down every day or so.

Just received this router yesterday and the 5g connection doesn't last more then an hour.   Completely useless.

Over the past couple of months, my Quantun G1100 router has been getting into a state where no new 5G wireless connections can be made.  Rebooting the router solves the problem.  It was happening about once a week until recently, now it is pretty much every morning that I have to reboot the router.  2.4 GHz works and wired ethernet is fine, the only problem seems to be with the 5G radio.  Searching the web I see that many others are experiencing this same issue starting with firmware 01.03.01.12 and persisting into 01.04.01.12 (the current release).  At least one person was told very recently that Verizon was aware of this problem and is working on a firmware fix, but no timeframe was given.  Downgrading solves the problem temporarily, but since firmware updates are "pushed" from Verizon, the problem comes back.  Can Verizon 1) confirm that this is a known problem and 2) give some idea if / when a firmware update might be released to fix it?

Evidently you know there is quite a lengthy discussion on this already as you wrote.

this is a customer helping customer forum you will not get any official anything on this forum.

call 1-800-VERIZON and see if you get an answer.

Throwing my name in so I can follow this thread.  I've been having this problem for about a month and a half now. Same symptoms as others, the 5G will just stop working. If I log into the routher to change any of the channels, it fixes it temporarily, but will go out again within a few hours.  Hoping there is a fix for this soon.

It works fine for me since I switched from WPA2 to WPA2/WPA mixed mode. This mode is less secure though.

Verizon should offer credits to customers for this.

Throwing my name in here too.  I have had the issue with the 5 ghz channel for about a month now.  The last few days my 2.4 ghz channel has also intermittently been dropping below 1 mbps (75/75 plan).  Ethernet speeds are fine.  Besides the inconvenience, and the fact that I am paying to rent this hardware that doesn't even work, I am pretty upset that now my mobile bill is through the roof.  Before we realized that the 5 ghz channel was failing our mobile phones were basically stuck in limbo switching between the 2.4 and 5 channels.  This lead to the devices just using our mobile plan data (while thinking we were on home wifi) and eating up our data and going 3 times over the limit.

Update on G1100 5G "change channel fix". 5G was up for 18 hours then crapped out. I suppose I will turn that radio off until VZ comes up with a fix. I have security cameras that will not work with 5G so dumping everything else on 2.4 is problematic.
