For the past 2 weeks or so, my G1100 router will no longer connect reliably at 5ghz. My devices will connect and then immediately disconnect or refuse to connect at all. If I reboot the router or change anything in the wifi settings that causes the router to reset the wireless, 5ghz will work again for a day or so, but then the same thing will happen. I have tried many different 5ghz channels, but none fix the issue for more than a day or so. I have no issues with 2.4ghz, only 5ghz. Prior to this problem recently, everything worked fine for over a year. I posted over at DSLReports and one other person has the same issue, but no one has any resolution to the problem.
Has anyone here seen this issue? Does anyone know if Verizon pushed a firmware update over the last 2 weeks?

I advise everyone to consider being their own Wi-Fi router (Such as Eero Pro 6), disabling the wifi on the G1100 and using it only to feed Fios channel information to the STB. It is ludicrous to pay the exorbitant amount of money Verizon wants for their routers, as apposed to buying you own and have the ability to use them with another provider should Verizon no longer suit your need.

@jonjoneswrote:You can use your own router with a MOCA adapter to have the VOD and channel guide. Just do a search on the forum on the steps to achieve it. Or here https://m.wikihow.com/Use-Your-Own-Router-With-Verizon-FiOS
Without the Verizon router, you won't get remote DVR access outside your own network.

I dont have the answer to your question about MOCA, but I would recommend switching to streaming TV and get rid of all the TV boxes.
Pretty much everything is available for streaming nowadays.
Streaming TV providers, like SlingTV and DirecTV Now, offer free hardware, like Roku Stick, Apple TV, etc.
And DirecTV Now is in the testing phase of cloud DVR functionality.

My 5 GHz AP has been up for over 145 hrs (approx 6 days). Firmware still showing 01.04.00.12.
My son moved out 6 days ago and I no longer have his TV and PlayStation (and other devices) connecting.
I am sending this via my 5 GHz connection on my Nexus tablet.
Not sure what happened but this is the longest it has been up since December.

Seeing as this bug renders 5GHz wifi completely unusable, I'd imagine this is a pretty high severity issue. 5GHz is essential to have for home networks, especially in crowded areas like apartments, for its large spread of channels and minimal interference with other home appliances...
VZ - Any update on this??

A firmware update has already been pushed out.
Not many complaints now day. It was fixed is my guess.

Problem has been fixed at my place for a good while now. I hard wired ethernet before the fix. I get better results than with wifi.

This has not been fixed for me. After the firmware update, it was good for about 3 weeks. Then it went out - no 5ghz. I called support and he guy said I needed to change my channel to 149. He did that, and, as with every change, it was good again. This time it lasted about 2 weeks. It went out on Saturday, 5/19. I didn't want to call over the weekend, so I just rebooted, which brought it back. I will call it in this week and see what they say.

Do you think Verizon sent out yet another update?
I know you are the original poster and I thought it was all set. I have not seen any posts except one related to a update. The one at DSL Reports. However the original poster was calling the actiontec router with a Fios Quantum Gateway updated firmware.
someone there did ask the poster to verify what they are using.

I don't know if Verizon pushed out another update (I doubt it). I just know that my devices haven't been keeping a stable connection lately. It's not like it was before where they couldn't connect at all on 5ghz. They just seem to be dropping their connection often and, in some cases, I need to re-add the connection manually because the device can't find the network (I don't broadcast my SID).

I have noticed wifi disconnecting on a couple of my devices (Windows 10 desktop and Apple TV) for the past two weeks.
I have to check, if there was another Quantum router firmware update since the last update, that seemed to fix this 5GHz issue.

So can someone techy out there help me (non-techie). So I am a Fios internet only-no longer using router for TV on demand, etc. Can I just take the coax that is in my old router and plug it in to a new high-end router and call it a day? Is there anything more that I have to do? Again I am not a techie guy here so sorry for the dumb question but at this point I would rather just spend a few hundred dollars on a good router and be done with it as I constantly lose my 5G and frankly have poor coverage in a home that is not all that big . I bought the gateway router outright originally so I’m not paying any monthly charge on it anyway

Read this how to at this link.

You must release the dhcp first. It is easy to do.
Make sure you understand that if you give back the Fios router you lose tech support from the ont to the home. So Verizon will Test from their service to your ont.

Very few routers support MOCA. If you have one yes you can do what you ask. Pretty much only the ones being used by Verizon.
Most routers support ethernet. You can ask Verizon to switch you to internet and run a standard ethernet cable for the ONT to your router. No cost if you run the cable yourself, but at a cost if they have to come out to run it for you.

You could ask for a new router from Verizon. The replacement may function as needed.
you can also buy a better high end router with external antenna and beam forming and multiple bands a/ac/b/g/n I believe there is another band being tested. But no devices will use it for quite sometime.
now you could ask a friend to borrow a router and see if the same thing occurs.
Hope it all works out for you.

I guess my issues fall under this category, but I had no problems until 3-4 weeks ago, and it's not just the 5 Ghz band. I have the G1100 and the Fios extender that have been working fine from Oct 2016 until a few weeks ago. All of a sudden my wifi drops every 5-10 minutes and takes around 10 seconds to 1 minute to come back. When it comes back, it will sometimes be extremely slow, like under 1 mbps. I'll reboot the router and the speed will come back, but the drop issue remains. Then, after the next drop the speed may or may not be OK. I've tried rebooting the router/extender/ONT and changing some settings like frequency and power saving and then reverting, but nothing helps. I guess the next step is getting a replacement router or extender because it doesn't seem like the firmware problem people had in the past.
