For the past 2 weeks or so, my G1100 router will no longer connect reliably at 5ghz. My devices will connect and then immediately disconnect or refuse to connect at all. If I reboot the router or change anything in the wifi settings that causes the router to reset the wireless, 5ghz will work again for a day or so, but then the same thing will happen. I have tried many different 5ghz channels, but none fix the issue for more than a day or so. I have no issues with 2.4ghz, only 5ghz. Prior to this problem recently, everything worked fine for over a year. I posted over at DSLReports and one other person has the same issue, but no one has any resolution to the problem.
Has anyone here seen this issue? Does anyone know if Verizon pushed a firmware update over the last 2 weeks?

I advise everyone to consider being their own Wi-Fi router (Such as Eero Pro 6), disabling the wifi on the G1100 and using it only to feed Fios channel information to the STB. It is ludicrous to pay the exorbitant amount of money Verizon wants for their routers, as apposed to buying you own and have the ability to use them with another provider should Verizon no longer suit your need.

I thought I answered this already?
it is a defective router call 1-800-VERIZON and have them replace it.

I had similar issues. Replaced the router and day two of new router poof, devices kicked off. Now thinking I'm overloading the network with 17 devices.... ?

I finally got mine replaced also and I still had the problem. I just changed the 5ghz channel again and I'm waiting to see what happens. I started a thread on DSLReports.com and a number of people are having the same problem. We can't all have bad routers. I'm thinking a firmware update or something similar caused the problem.

Yep I noticed your post. Channel 153 you said was stable so far.
however the last poster in the thread gave good advice. Get your own Netgear or Asus etc. triband Router with mimo and with multidirectional antennas.
then turn off your WiFi on the Fios router. Place your new owner supplied router in access point mode.
You will I’ll be glad you did. 😀

Well, success with channel 153 lasted less than 48 hours, so now it's back to square one. I know I can buy a separate wireless router and use that instead, and I may end up doing that, but I really don't want another device running 24/7. My electric bill is high enough and I want the one I bought to work like it should.
I can't believe Verizon isn't getting calls from other people about this.

They probably are. In the dsl Reports site the router is noted for poor WiFi.
if you google the situation you will find many complaints about the Fios Quantum Gateway Router
but the decision is yours. By the way electric use is negligible.

I haven't payed attention to the router market lately. Do you have an specific models you would recommend?
Also, I realize that Wi-Fi isn't great with the Verizon router, but the tech person in me wants to know why it suddenly stopped working after working fine for 2 years.

Ahh I am partial to the Netgear Router. My Nighthawk R8500 is great. Never a problem. But the device costs over $400 and is not the newest one out there which is the R9000 http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/
and I have the R8500 .
Routers can go kaput at any time so the build quality can make a world of difference.

Because I have a very long but narrow space with old thick plaster walls I always need more than one router. And because I live in a terrible cell reception area, I also need to use said router for my phone.
I'm using the full size Netgear Orbi Mesh system with two satellites and it works quite well. You can also use just the main Orbi router which I have found to throw a good wireless signal.

I am having the same issues and took your advice. Dug up my Asus AC68W and connected it as described. I am now very glad indeed.
There is definately something wrong as I am reading reports of the issue here and on dslreports. The router was never top of the line but it was very servicable for me until about the last 2 weeks.
Hope a fix is put out soon. Thanks for the advice.

At least in your case you now have it working. The Quantum is junk in my personal opinion.
a high end router is the way to go.

I think it's time they roll out somthing a little more robust, thats for sure. Not really up for the task of thier faster speed packages. 5ghz really has to work in these circumstances or its just money down the drain.

The problem being Verizon wants to keep the costs down and the profits per customer up. If Verizon used a high end router it would need to redo contracts with vendors and their support staff would need better updated training. 5ghz is not strong signal, penetration is not as great, and many devices and older computers cannot connect to it.

I agree that the Quantum router isn't great and I'm going to pick up a Netgear or Linksys this week, but the G1100 is an AC1750 Router and I never had issues getting a connection anywhere in my home (even the far corners) until 2 weeks ago.

I wish it were that simple, but the router didn't crap out. The brand new replacement I just got has the exact same issue. Everyone having the problem says it started about 2 weeks ago. There's no way this is a coincidence. Something must have changed in the firmware recently.

The fact that numerous people have had this issue spring up on them in the last two weeks does seem like something else is going on here. I reached out to Verizon and they advised me to do a factory reset which didn't work. My G1100 is still under warranty but it seems that does nothing to solve the problem. So I won't persue that.
I am going to reach out to them again and make mention that there are others having simmilar issues on these forums in the same timeframe. Verizon won't move on this issue until enough people complain and they recognize the issue as legitimate and not a one off problem. The only way to push this along is to call them. Stregnth in numbers.

Finally found a thread on this! Me too! Me too!
It was fine for a year, then the 5ghz kept kicking everything off and disallowing re-connections until it was rebooted or I changed the channel. I got finally got a replacement router under warranty, but the same thing is happening. I've tried:
Reboots
Reseting to defaults
New network name
All channels and running a wifi analyzer for the best one
Disabling wmm
Replacing the router
Rebooting the ont
But honestly it can't be any of these things because it was working fine, so what changed? I don't want to buy a new router
I bought this one already!

I will admit having numerous Gateway Routers have the same issue is far fetched.
and to be honest the other poster saying others are having the issue in large numbers? I would highly doubt unless they just did not post here or other places on the net, let alone called Fios about it. Say 750,000 use the Greenwave router (Quantum Gateway Router G1100) 10,000 or 20,000 have the issue they don’t consider that a major issue. But they may have more of those routers over what I use for an example.
however I find merit in your analogy about any updates to the router, prior to its issues.
but it is known that Verizon Fios has not pushed out a firmware update past what was posted on the forum.
I still firmly believe that it may simply be a faulty 5 Ghz radio transmitter design flaw in the routers. Couple that the Quantum does not use beamforming antennas like high end routers this may be the problem.
I have read over at dsl reports that Verizon has a new Fios Quantum Gateway Router and a combination ONT/router coming out to the customers. No I don’t know when but the specs and the router number are at that website. With photos.
you could simply use the google search to find the new one.
