So, I've had FiOS for years now. My family subscribed to it when it was very new. I've never really had a problem. My download is not as much as I would like it to be. The most I've downloaded at a time is maybe 620kb/s, but that really doesn't even bug me. The real problem is this high amount of ping that I have been getting recently, only during the day. I do have a decent amount of devices connected, but they're not all on. The only things that are really connected at one time is my computer and two laptops used by my nephews. Usually I could tell when one of them was downloading something because my ping would be high and lag would be horrible on online games. All that I would have to do was wait it out, but that wasn't a big deal. The big deal now is that even when they aren't downloading (I am not either) the ping remains constantly high, in the 300's to 400's, sometimes maxing out at 600. The only time it runs smoothly is late at night (around 11:00 PM) and early mornings (up until around 12:00 PM). I'm not sure if there is a problem with my router and it's not distributing the bandwith correctly or what. I've downloaded the in home agent, optimized my settings, updated my router, checked all my settings, etc. Really out of ideas.

Well thanks for the input everyone. I guess if the problem gets out of hand, I'll try calling or contacting someone. For some reason it's fine today, so, we'll see.

Keep trying. Call tech support and ask that they have a network tech help. If the agent you talk to cant or wont help you, ask for a supervisor. eventually you'll get someone that will understand what the problem is and get it escalated properly. This problem is beyond the front line tech support ability and you need to get ahold of a tech that understands that.
Maybe one of the techs that visit here can help escalate it.
You may also want to go over to dsl reports (register there, its free) and post your problem there. There is an official Verizon presence there unlike this forum.

i tried and tried and tried again these verizon tech guys dont care for these results they tell me it has to be a current issue not something in the past meanwhile these results were from 4 hours before i was able to call them and they act like i made them up and edited the informaton this has been a constant issue for 4 weeks now and im still waiting for someone to do something. I've had it with the tech department and have called in like 3-4 times a day they escalate me to a nt and they tell have even called me and told me everything is fine because they happen to test it when it is actually working. Its not like this all day just most of the day. Sorry if i rambled on frustration has hit me like a ton of bricks already.

I switched to FIOS from DSL two weeks ago and have had poor wireless connectivity since then (until yesterday). High packet loss and high ping/jitter (20% loss, 245 ms ping 335 ms jitter on Pingtest.net). A wired connection experiences no dropped packets and low ping so I know the FIOS connection and cabling is good. Tech support kept insisting it was interference but the prior DSL gateway on the same channel and in the same location had no issues. After trying all the channels, no improvement. Verizon overnighted a new router but the result was the same - dropped packets high jitter on all channels. At times it seemed to improve to only a few percent dropped packets but would degrade again to the 15-20% range. Unacceptable. The solution was to buy a wireless access point and disable the poor wireless system on the Verizon supplied router. I got a NetGear Wireless N Access Point. Very easy installation. Yes its an additional unexpected expense, but the improvement is worth it. You can attempt to use an existing router as a Wireless Access Point (WAP), but its much more tedious to configure and get working and some routers (like my old one) won't work as a WAP. Purchasing a preconfigured WAP makes the installation trivial. Just connect the WAP to a PC with a CAT 5 cable, configure the wireless settings, WEP, MAC options, channel, etc. to your preferences and then connect the WAP to one of the LAN ports on the Router and then disable the radio on the Verizon router.
Result: All wireless issues solved. Now Pingtest.net resutls are 0% packet loss, 22 ms ping, 0/1 ms jitter. A good wireless link should be as good as a wired connection especially if the device is in the same room as the router. The Verizon supplied routers just have a crappy wireless system

sounds like your issue is much different then mine whether im connnected wirelessly or wired i get the same issue but rarely any packet loss so I dont think its my router i called in the other day and dealt with a supervisor who trouble shooted the issue with me he told me it could be a bad coax cable that has a kink in it which i don't see. We switched my connection to a ethernet connection coing out of my ONT and it seems like im still having issues so here i go again with more drama... lol

now that you're on ethernet - slap you're own router on there temporarily. like a linksys or a dlink.
the verizon routers have a notoriously small nat table and that was increased in the later revisions but it is still smaller than that of a dlink or linksys.
take advantage of it while you have ethernet connection and see if that is the problem.

also when the problem happens live go into your router under network connections or my network (wherever it is that you see your devices) And start disabling them one by one and test. leave your connection live obviously, but I bet you will find it's one pc that is causing the entire network to go to a crawl. if it doesn't make a difference then its easier for you to throw the ball in VZ's court. right now they have it in your court.

its def not the computers i get lag on my xbox 360 when nothing else is connected to my router i completely turn the wireless off and still get latency with my xbox or labtop connected through the ethernet cable so its definetely not any computer in my house creating the issue and if im hardwired through an ethernet cable is the router still an option for being the issue?

My priority is fixing my high latency can this some how be connected to parts of my issues?

Upload speeds are a little quirky. Verizon frequently "over provisions" their upload side to make sure you get what your paying for. Many see speeds in excess of what they are actually paying for.
As for if that is a problem for what you are seeing, the answer is no. Your speed has nothing to do with the high pings that you see. No those are related to routers on the network. speed has very little to do with ping.
