I want to replace the old and ugly yellow surface mount wall jack/housing originally implemented by fios install tech many years ago. The box receives telephone wire (2 wires) + cat5e ethernet coming out from my ONT. I believe there are Keystone jacks inside the surface mount box. In essence the box inputs are hard wired. The box also includes a set of standard female RJ11/RJ45 output jacks that are connected to my phone and router respectively. I'm savvy with what needs to be done to replace the box in terms of rewiriing . What concerns me is I guess I should disconnect the ethernet cable + the phone leads on the ONT before I rewire a new surface box. I'm not too concerned about the phone situation. Ethernet - different story. My network is moderately complex and includes many devices. Will I run into problems if I temporarilly disconnect the ethernet cable from the ONT to perform the upgrade? I realize if for example there is a power outage and the ONT goes dark - network configuration on my end will be retained once the power is restored. Bottom line I just want to make sure temporary ethernet disconnect on a live ONT isn't a risk to my existing network configuration.
Thanks. [-paul.]
