Using own router problems

I am a new subscriber, trying to remove the Fios Router and just use my own router.  I have had this problem for about a month, I have followed the directions to release the lease on the Fios router before connecting my own.  Anytime I do this, I can't get thru 1 hour without losing connection.  If I re-connect the Fios router, everything works great.  I have been reading here and there, is it possible that Fios requires their router in order for the connection to work?   If so how can I setup the CR100B the best way so that my router is primary and the Fios router is like a bridge or passthru?
