Very low range on wireless route with Verizon DSL service

When trying to set up a wireless route (Belkin N+) to the DSL modem Model 6100, the range is very poor - only about 15 feet.  Laptop will connect in same room, but loses signal just 15' away (tested with another laptop - same issue).

Our DSL speed is : Download 982 Kbps //Upload 481 Kbps.

What is the residential DSL speed that is to be provided by Verizon?  Could this low speed be the problem with the wireless range?

Other suggestions for the problem? Thanks

Your DSL speed would have very little impact on the wireless range.  Most wireless routers use the 2.4 ghtz frequency to carry the wireless signal. So here is a starting point.  Check for cordless telephones nearby that operate in the same range. Move them away from the router. (to the other side of the room) or replace it with a phone that operates on 5.8 ghtz or DECT 6.0

Make sure the Router external Antenna (if it has one) is screwed in tightly.

Go into the wireless settings and make sure the tx/rx channel matches on the router and the laptop (default is 6)

My D-link router has a setting for wireless transmit power. I have it set at 100 % 17db.  A lower setting will cause poorer performance. Check if your Belkin has this setting and make sure it's at 100%.

This was just a starting point. Hope you figure it out.
