I have a G3100 router in my house
But i can't manage anything directly on it. I have to use the app for most things.
the old G1100 router at least allowed me to quickly find devices with their MAC/OUI number. The current UI buries that so it takes forever. I used to have a meaningful display of device names, because we have so many smart switches. Now, they are almost all "wlan0" because it takes FOREVER to figure out which device is which because Verizon won't let me see the MAC numbers easily. And the ones I changed? THE MYFIOS APP DOESN"T USE THE NAME! -- it simply looks at the devicve default name.
We used to have a horrible time any time the router lost power -- why? Because that's when Verizon says "hey, let's update the firmware" whenit comes back up. So then you're running blind because you have no idea the router is updating, so you're rebooting it, and unplugging it, and resetting it. I had to get a replacement becacuse it bricked -- why? Because the kids unplugged it by accident and when it came back up, there was no internet for almost an hour. I got tired of waiting and started troubleshooting. Unplugged power, rebooted, etc etc. Finally called, nope, it was bricked. I had unplugged it while it was updating -- which I had NO way to know about. Verizon should email and tell me there's an update and please powercycle it when you're not busy, etc. But Verizon doesn't care.
The MyFios app is simply horrible. It is slow as cold molasses. Moreover, they tried dumping ALL of the account marketing and management into it. The old app was clunky, but I could get to the parental controls quickly.
The current app -- drops me nowhere useful, then I have to navigate to services/internet/etc etc etc and it takes forever to load each page.
There is no option to "favorite" a specific page (you know, so if you want to disable your kids PC quickly)
Verizon doesn't care.
If I had ANY other options for fast internet, I would jump in a minute. Having Verizon is like being in an abusive marriage.
