Verizon Broadband Customers Get Free Boingo Wi-Fi
Verizon Wifi now works on Mac? | Apple Support Communities
in response to Googleperplexed | This solved my question
I am logged in on Boingo at Newark Airport, using verozon wifi
I selected roaming login as Verizon Business
I added "@verizon.net" to my verizon wifi username
!gave my verizon wifi password,
and all worked as in William Yang's instructions.
@MFfan310: A few points to clarify here.
Windows Only
Completely false. You don't need any software to connect to their hotspots and even if you wanted to use the optional software they provide, they have a version for Mac OS X.
Software Download to Access Hotspots
You don't have to download anything to access the hotspots. Boingo has a program that simply makes connecting to the different hotspots easier.
No Support for Win7
They aren't supporting this yet because IT HASN'T BEEN RELEASED FOR PURCHASE to the general public. I'm sure come October when people can buy Windows 7 they'll support that OS too.
No Support for Mobile Devices with Wi-Fi
Again, you don't need any software to connect, I can access their hotspots fine with my iPhone and I do believe that falls into the mobile device with wi-fi category. Again, if you really want their software that makes connecting easier, they have downloads for multiple mobile OSes.
Not that I love Boingo or anything, I'm just trying to figure out why you posted all of this clearly incorrect information. The only research I needed to do involved visiting a single webpage - [www.boingo.com]

"Or perhaps they want to keep the number of Wi-Fi users down because the more users that use the service, the more they have to pay Boingo."
... and the less cellular data their customer (who may be also a Verizon Wireless customer) will use, meaning less revenue for Verizon. The better the Wi-Fi service from Verizon (the non-wireless company), the less revenue for Verizon Wireless.

Thanks for your blog post. But in the two years since, they have not doc'd a method for alternate OS's. I just chatted with Verizon Tech Support; they confirmed they support only Windows PC's. In the nearest big downtown to me (Huntington Village, NY 11743), Optimum has 50+ hotspots within a few blocks of Main St. and New York Ave.; Verizon's nearest hotspot is miles away. And Optimum lets you register the MAC address of up to 6 devices -- no login needed, you just connect & go.
I wonder if Verizon (the corporation) is afraid that if Verizon (the TV, phone, Internet provider) provides too good a Wi-Fi service, then the customers of Verizon Wireless won't need to use as much cellular data. That's true for us, but I really don't want to go back to Verizon (FiOS) if it doesn't improve Wi-Fi.

Agreed, FIOS hotspots are a joke.
Having said that be careful what you wish for. Comcast now has hot spots enabled in every gateway it ships and that has created all kinds of issues. You can get it turned off, but on many devices when Comcast sends a reset it gets turned back on.

This does not work. I have quantum/75 and the option for Wi fi hot spot is not listed on my account.
I have spoken to verizion representatives and have visited verizon fios store. I also piggyback on a previous wifi question but was told by the moderator that since the thread was two years old, start my own.
Would someone kindly tell me how to register for verizon wifi hotspot?

You have to download software to your PC.
Isn't support on anything other than Windows if memory serves me correctly.

There used to be a registration, it gave you a different id to us. Maybe you still have to do that
According to this FAQ
1. How can I get Verizon Wi-Fi?
If you subscribe to a FiOS Internet plan that qualifies you for free Verizon Wi-Fi, you can visitwww.verizon.net/wifi to get additional information and register for Verizon Wi-Fi. During the registration process, you will create your Verizon Wi-Fi user name and password and be prompted to download the Verizon Wi-Fi Connect software. This software is used to connect to the Internet at Verizon Wi-Fi hotspots.
I did this years ago and there was special software to download and I abandoned it as I could never find any hoprspots that were of any use.
As stated previously, I think it only work on Windows machines

oh sorry forgot to add this point...I specifically bypassed TWC because I was promised Verizon had WiFi Hotspot and I know Verizon 's employees do not lie or use misleading sales tactics. That would be wrong(and illegal).

I agree. I'm really confused that Verizon offers this 'free' Wi-Fi Hotspot service all over the world, as long as you want to tug along your hefty windows laptop.
Really, it's 2015 and Verizon still wants you to download and install client software (that takes control of your network drivers) in order to use their hot-spot service.
Verizon sales mobile devices all day long, and does NOT support them on their own hotspot service.
Very weird....and so 2010.
Seems Xfinity wi-fi service is everywhere, maybe I need to re-evaluate FIOS.....
