i have regular router and can only connect fire stick sporadically - reluctant to spend $199 for better router - are there other options thank. you

It might not necessarily be the router. Is the firestick far from your router? You might just have a bad wifi signal. A wifi extender could be a cheaper solution.

Any Wi-Fi extender works. They're built to standards. Make sure it's not a problem with the signal to your router first before you go out and buy an extender. The extender can make problems worse if your signal is already strong to the router.
If you have devices closer to your router misbehaving, or even wired in for that matter which misbeave, we should look into why.
Also, what router model do you have anyways? It should say on the the sticker underneath the router.

One thing also to consider is that many routers have a maxumum connection limit. If you have many smart home devices, it could be kicking off when you lights are tring to connect for example.
Can you provide more info concerning the type of router, and the distance from Fire Stick to Router?
Also are there any brick walls between those two deivces?
