my router is not strong enough to give a strong signal throughout my house . I bought a new N router but it's difficult to mate with my existing actiontec modem/router supplied by Verizon. Do I have to use Verizon's supplied router/modem or can I buy my own modem to hook up to the system with my new router

If your own router is already good enough for you in terms of speed and performance, consider asking Verizon to send you a Westell 6100 modem and also send you a shipping label to send back the Verizon router. The modems are typically free from Verizon if you ask them. Alternatively, put your current Gateway in Bridge mode and set up your new router to connect using PPPoE or DHCP, based on what Verizon uses in your area. I can help you bridge the gateway if you give me the make and model of it.
