How do you know its being blocked? If Outlook is blocking it then its a Microsoft issue and not a verizon issue and to fix that I think you can just zip the file. Actually, when I used to send Access files outlook would block them all the time, so I used to rename the files. So a file like foo.mdb would become foo.bdm or for a word document a file like foo.doc would be foo.cod.
Outlook doesn't recognize the extension, so it allows it through.

How do I know it's blocked......the e-mail is sitting in my out bin and I keep getting this error message that says "The message you attempted to send was determined to be spam. Please visit http://www.verizon.net/spamfaq for more information. " When you go to Verizon Spam FAQ it tells you to get the e-mail released you have to send an e-mail to 'spamdetector.update@verizon.net' with the offending attachment. They will determine if it's spam. I've sent them 4 or 5 e-mails. It certainly looks like it's Verizon. I still haven't heard from the supervisor that was suppose to call me back.
Any thoughts?

What works best for me is to use google docs.
You'll need to have a google account. Then go to http://docs.google.com/ You can create a new doc there or upload an existing doc. Then you can "publish" your doc. Once it's published, you can just send the provided link and folks can view the doc in their browser. Works great. Here's an example: http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=ajjjfpjp4gsk_208djkqqxgp

Another option that might work is to create a PDF and send that rather than trying to send the actual .doc or .docx file. Creating a PDF is easy and lets anybody that has Adobe Reader or Foxit or any number of other PDF viewers see the document, and they don't need a Word-compatible tool to view it.
You can create PDFs directly in Office 2007 components and Open Office. If you don't have those, there are many free PDF creation tools. I like PDFCreator, just Google it to find it, download and install, creates a new "printer" in your list of printers, no viruses, etc. Works great, I almost never send anything except in PDF form, you might give it a try.

Thanks for the help. Been busy with my last few classes for the semester and will try some of your suggestions. But don't you think it's kind of stupid that you can't send a 4 or 5 page Word document. And if you follow their instructions still can't get it released or a return phone call. Thanks again.
While I obviously don't know for sure, I don't think it is the size of the document, I think it is something to do with the content of either the email itself or the document that is causing the Spam filter to reject the email.Try an experiment: you know the size of the Worddocument, create an email and attach one or more photos that exceed the size of the Word document, and send that, to yourself or a friend. If that goes through, then size has nothing to do with it. I send emails with large attachements occasionally (PowerPoint presentations for example) and have never had a problem with Verizon's spam filter.
One other possibility that I can think of; do you know if your IP address has changed recently, specifically between the last time you successfully sent a version of this document and now? I am wondering if the IP address you have now has been identified in the past as a spam source and that is why you are having a problem.Just a thought....
Good luck, I hope you can getpast this.

Justin, Most of the time there is no content (message) I'm just sending out a car show list. If I do send a message it's just to let people know that there's a new cruise night or a charity car show.
Thanks for the suggestions about sending a shorter version. I did try that just a few minutes ago and it went through. I did not try sending the full version so I don't know if the "spam division" finally released it or if the shorter version is the only way I can send it. If I can only send one page at a time that's really stupid. I'll have to send out 5 times as many e-mails, Brilliant! Which would make me exceed the 500 e-mails per hour and get me blocked.
Schools over so I'll be able to experiment with what I can send out. Thanks for all the suggestions.
Argghhhh, you just reminded me of a power point presentation that I'll have to send soon.....
