slow wired and wireless speeds 500/500 plan

I recently upgraded from 2010ish era equipment with a 50/50 plan to a nice new cr1000b router with 500/500  I assumed this would be an upgrade but after the installation and slow speeds then a service visit 2 days later for slow speeds I'm at 7 days with an average download speed 28mbps and 18mbps upload speeds.  the chat function online and the tech support over the phone have been zero help with chat eventually just not responding and tech support putting me on hold for several minutes at a time with no outcome only to try and sell me faster internet when my 50/50 plan was better at this point then what I upgraded to. I'm not sure what to do next, looking for suggestions?
