This is really annoying. When I turn my tv on in the morning I'm greeted with "Press Menu to watch Fios TV". So in the dark I have to find the Menu button. This is a Arris STB and there is no Menu>>Settings>>STB option to turn off screensaver. The STB auto-poweroff is set to None therfore it is in standby/screensaver and not actually turning off.
How can I get the STB to stop going to screensaver? OR how can the remote be programmed so when I press the TV ON button it also sends the Menu command?

If auto power off is set to none and no one is turning STB off, then it should be available as soon as you turn on TV.
I have my DVR set to auto none and is on ready to go every morning when I turn on TV.

Auto power off is set to NONE. I don't see a DVR option to change. I am the only one here so I am sure I'm not turning off the STB, espcially because it's on the screensaver when I turn on the TV.

I have the Arris VMS1100. I can leave the TV on forever and the screensaver never goes away until I press Menu.

Sorry I wasn't clear.
Have TV and STB on.
Turn TV off.
Wait a couple of minutes.
Then turn TV back on.
Is STB still on or is screensaver on?

I turned the tv off and I fell asleep on the couch for almost 90 minutes. When I awoke the STB display was still showing the channel. I turned the tv on and the screensaver was NOT on. It appears there is some screensaver feature that kicks in sometime after 90 minutes.

Only other thing I can think to try is to setup auto power off to say 2 hours.
Then go back and set it to none.
Maybe something isn't stored correctly and hopefully this would fix it.

Nada. Still goes to sleep. Every monring I get the dreaded screensaver. Doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off in the 1100 STB.

I leave my vms1100 on all the time. And never get the screensaver.
Only other option is some sort of power glitch or box is going bad.

One last thing I can think of to try.
Do a cold init on box.
It will remove any custom settings, but doesn't remove any recorded content.
COLD INIT
- Unplug the box. Wait about 20 seconds.
- Plug back in and immediately begin repeatedly pressing MENU on remote until you see the word "run" on the front display
- Using the down arrow button, go down until you see "COLD".
- Press Ok and the box goes through activation process, including downloading the current IMG software

Nada. DId this on two boxes. Woke up this morning to the floating screensaver. I get it that they are trying to save my tv screen but if there's no signal on the hdmi line then why go into screensaver.

I had one more post to try that didn't appear.
It may be CEC settings.
Try this on STB:
Look under menu settings audio/video video settings TV input control. Set it to disabled.
Also look in TV options to see if there is setting for CEC.
On my Samsung it is called AnyNet. Description says it can power down device when TV is turned off.

I had high hopes for that one but alas the end result is the same. I too have a Samsung and see the settings you mention but this morning I still see the screensaver. I do very much appreciate all of your efforts.

And it is happening on two different TVs?
Are the STBs the same model?
I have 3 samsungs and none of them have this issue.

VMS1100 on a Panasonic - screensaver activates overnight. Not sure how many hours it takes.
IPC1100 on a 1 year old Samsung - screensaver activates overnight. Not sure how many hours it takes.
IPC1100 on a 1 year old Vizio - screensaver does NOT activate. Just realized this one.
CEC is turned off on the Samsung/Visio. The Panasonic is so old it doesn't have any smart features.
I respect your sticktoitivness.

This one has me intrigued.
Try swapping the ipcs.
Will help determine if TV or stb related.

Finally got around to this. Swapped the two boxes and the screensaver stays with the Samsung. The stb that used to be on the Samsung is now on a vizio and no screensaver. The stb that was on the vizio with no screensaver is now on the Samsung with the screensave. So, at least for the IPC's they don't show the screensave on the Vizio, but does on the Samsung. The main DVR, who knows.

So its obviously a Samsung interaction.
Maybe try reaching out to Samsung support?
They may know of a CEC issue with that model.
I assume you have checked for latest software updates?

I will check with Samsung. I do need to check for software udates. I'd imagine the old Panasonic doesn't have any such settings that I can find.
Thanks for all your efforts.

Hi, i stumbled across this forum after 3 months of my wife arguing about this same popup issue when we turn on tv.
I went to Menu/Settings/Notifications/Popup Alerts change options to “Never show me again”
i went to Recomendations, amd turned that off too.
I went to promotions and turned that off
i went to guide banner and shut that off
if i dont come back here to eat crow tomorrow then you can guess it worked for me.
thanks for starting this thread
