What's Going On With Your Guide?

There are a lot of issues that currently exist with your guide and for whatever reason the people in your company are not getting the issues corrected and the guide continues to get worse. I have previously posted on here about how a lot of the data does not match on the guide and that i have taken it upon myself to get the channels corrected for everyone nationally who has fios for their tv but more problems continue to pop up everyday. For example channel 218 vh1 classic has for the next few days "to be announced" on the guide with their being no indication of any programs on there coming soon. Another is cnn channel 100 or 600 in hd which next weekend the data that you have for next saturday and sunday is the schedule of what is usually on monday through friday. There is another channel called mega tv channel 466 that i was watching yesterday and everything was fine with it but now when i go to that channel there is a message saying "mega tv has been temporarily discontinued by the provider." Another channel that you just added is a brand new movie channel encore espanol channel 363 that has been there for a week already with a logo and a schedule of movies for the last week but when i try to either watch or tape something the message that i get is "verizon new content coming soon." Now in the past i have mentioned a lot of issues that exist with the current guide but now new problems continue to pop up everyday. I hope that you are truly trying to correct these issues and if you did not know about them then you now know. As far as the guide is concerned i have been getting things corrected on my own but it has been a lot of work so i have provided you with the name and number of the man who is responsible for all of the data that appears on your guide because it is his job to make sure all verizon customers have the most accurate data on their boxes. If your techs were to call him or email him with the email address that is on my ticket he will get any issues with the data on the guide corrected immediately. He works for the company that is your guide provider plus the guide provider of two of your competitors who if contacted his techs will correct everything. As for mega tv i see that they are getting a lot of complaints on their website about what is going on with the channel not appearing on the fios guide so i wonder if this is a contract dispute, a temporary thing of the channel not being there or if this is an indication of the fact that you may be adding some more channels in spanish as you are also doing with encore in espanol channel 363. If so then i hope that you have finally heard the requests that go back several years of people asking that canal sur peru or any kind of channel from peru be added because you have every other spanish speaking country in your spanish package but a channel from peru. It is not only the guide that is an issue but your widgets are a problem too. The tmz widget for example has been in and out with it rarely ever working as it should.

@RSherm wrote:I agree the new guide is not as helpful as the old one. To start with the colors are weak and look almost blurred.
I did think some tweaking was in order but the results are not good.
For everyone who is complaining, please at least include the model(s) of the STB(s) and type of TV(s) (LCD, plasma, tube, etc) you have. While there is nothing you or anyone else can do about the actual colors or the fonts themselves, there may be some options that you can change that will improve what you see.
And if you have 6xxx or 2500 boxes you should give serious consideration to asking Verizon to replace them with 7xxx boxes because I feel pretty certain you will never be happy using those.

Good luck Justin. I'm going to let you take over on this one. 🙂
Did you see the same complaint that was posted yet again immediately after mine, mine which repeats the same recommendations that we had come up with? I'm not picking on anyone but I definitely have to see the humor in this.
Maybe you should work for Verizon. I agree that it's important to be specific with the informatiion about your equipment so the help being offered can work better.

If you want to view the Guide similar to what it was in 1.8, go into Menu, Settings, Television, Guide View, then select Classic View. This will give you less channels to look at in the Guide and make the boxes a bit bigger. However, it won't change the color on the screen, as some have complained about the blue/white combo.
For only looking at subscribed channels, you don't have to mess with changing your Favorites button (unless you only have specific channels on it). To only view subscribed channels, do the following (only works in 1.9):
-Go to Menu
--Go to Settings
-Go to Television
-Go to Last Viewed Guide State
-Select Enable
Now, select Guide on your remote and then select Options on your remote. Select "Subscribed Channels." Now, when you go into the Guide, you will only see the channels you subscribe to. Please note it will also show Video on Demand channels and PPV channels, even if you don't get those, as you have the opportunity to purchase them. You can also set this to show only your Favorites channels or only HD channels. If you want to change the setting, just go back into Guide then Options and make the change. Note that if your power goes out or if you reset the box, it will revert back to "All Channels," so you'll just have to go back in and make the change.
Hope these help.

I tried the subscribed channels option but it doesn't show the correct channels. For example, it doesn't show 550 USA HD which I do get but it does show 668 Planet Green HD which I don't get - when I switch to it I get the "you are not subscribed to this channel display". Is there any way to get it to show the correct channels?

While this won't help the color issue, if you go into Menu, Settings, Television, Guide View, you can select Classic View (if you have IMG 1.9). This gives you the Guide as it was in 1.8, so there is not as much clutter on the screen as with the new view. There won't be as many channels to view on one screen.

The new Guide is great. It is easy to read and very fast.
Now, you are of course entitled to your opinion, just like I am entitled to mine. But in less than two weeks I will have had FiOS TV for 6 years - I have seen the good and the bad, and everything in between. This new version is way better than ANY previous one, with lots of great new features - can you even name any of them?
You think the new guide is slow; why do you think so? Compared to 1.8? What functions are slower? What STBs are you using it on? If you have older STBs I suggest you upgrade to newer ones, they have more powerful processors and more memory, I feel sure that will make a difference if it really is slow (and for the record, it is absolutely no slower than 1.8 was on any of my 3 STBs, all of which had 1.8 before I got 1.9 about a month ago).
I see you just registered here today, and have made 3 posts, all of which I would bet are negative. Why do you feel the need to come here and complain? Just because? Or does it really make you feel any better? Instead, why don't you at least make an effort to first of all understand what is new (NOT just the changed Guide format and colors), what is better (and yes, maybe what is not), and then make an actual positive contribution. This site is for users to help other users, nobody can help you (or I suspect would want to) if all you want to do is complain. Why don't you try helping? We would all benefit.

I'm also very unhappy with the new guide. It is quite SLOW and it seems hard to read - and I have perfect vision. It just seems that there's too much light difference and it gives you a headache. Maybe it's too big and does take up too much room like I read someone else post. I do know now that I cannot see the time anymore because it's too high on my screen... and I dislike that they changed the options for a channel so if you want to set a reminder, you have to go 2 spots down...or else you end up going to that channel. Also, the guide doesn't place your current channel on the middle line anymore... it readjusts and puts it one down. Very Disappointing... and I'm usually one for new improvement! SUCKS!!!

I too am very disappointed with the new guide. The old one was much easier to read and functioned better. Enough people have stated enough complaints and I am not going to repeat. My main displeasure is the difficulity reading/colors.
My 2 cents, maybe Verizon will listen if enough people express displeasure/negative opinions about the new Guide. Appartently we here in Texas are among the last in the nation to get it according to Verizon.
Please listen up Verizon!!!
Thanks

No Texas was in the third of six DAC's to get it. You were decidedly in the first half, not the last to get it.
Colors are the thing that might be changed in the future as a large number of people, even those who otherwise like 1.9, have complained about them.
Someone else earlier mentioned lots of wasted space on all sides. If its really a lot of space perhaps you are seeing the wrong version for your TV, e.g. SD on HDTV. If they are talking about the fact that it doesn't go to 5 % of the edge of the screen, that is in fact in response to the complaints that the earlier version ignored the standard Safe margins (action safe and title safe) that have been built-in to TV's standards for years. I.e. older TV's (and newer ones not set to show all pixels) would might well have these areas partially or completely off the screen.
Those who complained about the new "pip" (isn't really a pip) obscuring the channel number forget that the old one actually obscured three whole channels of the guide's programming info (so you only so about 1/2 an hour of guide info for those channels.

I thought I was going blind or hallucinating when the new guide came. How dare Verizon make these choices without permission and while they get our money. Fed up, thinking about going back to Comcast. Baltmore MD 21228

I, along with other people here, have figured out and responded with the solution to the problem just about every time someone posts about it. I'll post it here for my last time because I'm feeling like a broken record. I'm not meaning to sound rude or annoyed but it may help for you to read some of the other posts here which have the solution posted. It just gets tiring to keep seeing the same exact complaint over and over again when the solution is really straightforward and when it has been posted here.
The problem is either with having an outdated STB or an analog TV. If your STB is a 6xxx series, you need the updated 7xxx series box. Call customer service and ask for a replacement. From what I have read here, this has been the problem for people whose TV Guide display was slow and/or not displaying what it was supposed to show or just not doing what it was supposed to. If you have the updated STB but the graphics are just hard on your eyes with fuzziness because of the colors clashing and bleeding into each other, then it's probably because your TV is analog. That was my problem so I replaced it with a flatscreen and that solved it. The resolution on an analog TV is limited and can't handle the HD guide with the digital display.
I was complaining about this myself in the beginning but from what I have learned, those are your choices. Too many people here get so upset to the point of taking it so personally and just waiting for something to change. This is an upgrade. Verizon isn't going to knock at your door and ask if this is OK. Now that I have resolved my issue, I like the new display. When the technology changes, the equipment has to be sufficient to accommodate it.

Your categories guide is terrible ...........
Why can't guide be about the actual subject .... .
For example : Fooball - List everything about football under the categories of Football ....... Baseball - List everything about baseball under the categories of baseball .... Etc, etc, etc ....
Why can't versizon do that with the guide regarding Movies, Drama, News, Science, Health and Sports ....
thanks
