can'tturn off tv

I have a new set top box but tv does not turn off-- Just a fios message to go to menu or turn off tv

Is that the two button remote?

If so, nothing happens when you hit the TV button on the remote?

Does volume work ok?

I suggest OP read the guide for his remote.  If he doesn't have a paper copy full info is on the STB and this site https://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/TV/FiOSTV/Remote+Controls/SetUp/SetUp.htm

There is both the option to set up your remote control for TV functions.  And once that is done there is an option to either have the TV power controlled seperately or at the same time as turnint STB on/off. 

On the most common REMOTE, this second option is

OPTIONAL FEATURES

<STB Power> Button Turns

on TV and STB

Your remote has separate

power buttons for the TV and

STB. You can program the

key to turn on/off both

your TV and STB at the same

time.

1. Turn both your TV and STB

on.

2. Press and hold the <OK>

and STB buttons together,

then release both.

• The RED LED will blink

twice and then stay on.

3. Press 9 – 7 – 7.

• The Red LED will blink

twice and remain on.

4. Press STB BUTTON.

• The RED LED will blink 3

times and then turn off.

5. Test that the key

now turns on the TV and

STB at the same time.

6. If you want to reset the

remote so that the key

controls Only the STB,

follow the same steps as

above but press <OK> in

Step 4.
