See that Verizon is taking Game Show Network off of FIOS TV Ultimate TV at the end of January 2018. How do we get it back?
I thought the message said that it was being removed from all but Ultimate package. At least that is what I see on the thread at DSLREPORTS. Being Frontier I cannot check.
Don't worry about it, Verizon keeps taking away channels by the end of 2018 we will only have our local channels to watch. They keep taking and taking but never give us anything to replace the channels removed. They keep saying the content provider is making this change and I call **bleep** its Verizon not wanting to pay for the channels but they don't have a problem taking our monthly payment to fatten up the executives pockets.
Next time if we renew our Verizon Fios services, I want in writing that the channels that I am supposed to get with my package remain with my package until the end of the contract (except if a particular program itself and not Verizon chooses to do so). Since we reupped in May 2017, we have lost Hallmark Murders and Mysteries, now El Rey and now The game Show Network from our extreme package?! The stuck us with The Cowboy channel. I believe that the Ultimate package which is more money is the stategy Verizon is using by dropping specific channels from lesser amount packages.
Verizon, nor any of the other cable providers, will supply that.
What happens if the content provider ends programming?
Or the content provider wants to double their rate? Keep in mind you have a fixed price, but their costs are constantly changing.
Both my mom and I have called Verizon to inquire about this change and the agents tell us they're unaware of it. Last night someone said that it was the content provider going away - just find that hard to believe and there's nothing on the GSN site to indicate that.
Totally agree with the person who said that all Verizon does is take away. I'm currently off contract, waiting to see what happens before I re-enroll in any package. Still waiting to get the Weather Channel back. Accuweather is a total joke.
I read my current bill for my FIOS triple play. it says that GSN will be removed from the extreme and other packages. I called and was told that i could upgrade to the ultimate packege for more money, of course,. more channals i never watch, or take certain custom packages. the custom packages would make me lose other favorite channals. I am in the middle of a 2 year contract. I was told they can do anything they want. i called the public service commission, but don't get involved with channal lineup issues.
we need to stand up against Verizon's greed.
I agree with you. I had to read it twice. I am outraged as this is not a channel that is not being viewed by customers, it's pretty popular with Family Feud, Cash Cab and the other great programming. I am seriously considering switching to another provider.
I understand your point, but I don't agree. When I signed up, I made that decision based on a few things one being the channels and of course cost. I was in a contract and the cost sky rocketed up $30, not to mention the substandard internet which even if I'm in the same room can be spotty. I even bought the Wi-Fi extender to help which it didn't. As for the TV, yes if the provider stops programming we have no control. If they want a double then the customers should be aware and be provided with the alternative perhaps paying a few dollars to retain it. The answer can't be you want GSN upgrade to ultimate, many of us are paying an astronomical amount per month. At this point it feels like we're not being valued as customers.
How can Verizon get away with taking the GSN off of the Extreme plan, two months after you sign up for their two year agreement.
I couldnot agree with you more. I understand if Verizon was taking GSN off its entire system, but too carry it only on the Ultimate plan and keeping it off the other plans is a crime. Anyone who signs a two year agreement and Verizon does this them, then the customer should be let out of their agreement. Verizon should be reported to the state authority in charge of cable systems.
Because it is written into the contract.
This is from the FIOS TOS:
Subject to applicable law, we reserve the right to change, rearrange, add, delete or otherwise modify the Service at any time, with or without prior notice to you, including changing, rearranging or otherwise modifying our Programming packages, the selections available in those packages, the Equipment, any Other Devices, and any other features, products and services that we offer.
Please tell me why negotiations to keep the channels that I paid for and now have lost a dozen or so are not being replaced. Most of them seem to be movie channels and I like them. They were on my list when I made the contract and now I still pay the same price but don't have the same amount of channels. The Game Show Network, Reelz the Movie channel etc. I want them back.
Your talking to peers here. Even while many of us think that at least some of these channels should be saved, comments here have almost no effec ton Verizon's decisions.
This coming one month after Verizon got a massive corporate tax cut and hell yes I am going there. The tax cut is permanent so their savings from it is permanent yet they moved GSN just after receiving the tax cut. This is an example of how it doesn't trickle down to us.
Verizon commented in a report that they would not increase their spending so that they may maintain a stable financial report, so they don't plan to budget that tax cut in those areas that would disturb their "status quo".

ANYONE WHO SIGNED UP FOR PACKAGES WITH GSN SHOULD BE GRANDFATHERED INTO GETTING IT TO THE COMPLETION OF THEIR CONTRACT. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO UPGRADE TO GET IT(WHAT A SCAM) I COULD SEE IF THE CHANNEL WAS NOT AVAILABLE AT ALL COMPLAIN TO THE FCC. YOU CAN PUT IN AN ONLINE COMPLAINT
I am so **bleep**. I bought a package just for GSN we watch it every night. They told me they are under negotiations with GSN. It is $124 to buy out of my contract.
Time to drop them and get the Amazon Fire Stick, they have GSN and all local channels. Or go back to Cox. My wifi sucks in my house with Verizon also.
May want to verify that GSN app allows viewing with a cable subscription before switching to it.A number of cable channels don't allow full vieiwing without it.
I am exceedingly annoyed at Verizon right now. I understand that they have the right to do this, but we, on the other hand, have to commit to a 2 year contract. My wife and I switched to save money on overpriced cable but are now only saving $20 per month. I will honor my commitment simply because I don't want to pay a big penalty to get out, but at the end of 2 years Verizon is OUT! Ironically, when I told my cable company that I was leaving, they told me they would have cut me to $180 for the service that I had. I am not dissatisifed with Verizon service or quality, but it is outrageous that you now get LESS for the same money and have to spend MORE just to stay where you are! I will tell anyone I know who is considering switching to FIOS about this. Even my cable company didn't pull this on me without notice!
GSNFREAK2 is exactly correct. Evidently, even with a contract, Verizon can change the channel line up at will. The subscriber (us suckers) has to suck it up and pay more money for another package to get GSN or pay less to get GSN but, loose countless other networks. Gready content and cable providers.
Yes, most if not all cable contracts allow them to add or delete channels as they wish.
Its the payoff for having a fixed price.
If they couldn't, they would have to estimate how much channel prices would go up over the term of your contract. And given they everyone has a different contract date, they would have to continually be updating prices and/or packages.
Not saying I agree, just stating mechanics
GSN is grandfathered into many plans. But watch out, you make a change and you are no longer in that plan. It is not grandfathed into all plans. I've asked if we could publish a list.
I was watching this channel, GSN, about an hour ago and suddenly a message appeared on my TV telling me that was not subscribed to this channel. My package DOES include this. When I spoke to agent about this I was told that this channel has been removed from package since a few days ago. I did not receive any notification about this removal from Verizon and I would like to know why this channel was removed. I was also told that if I wanted to subscribe to this channel I would need to get another package and would have to pay an additional amount to change to this package. I would like Verizon to explain this decision to me to remove this channel from my package.
Check the messages on your stb. It was listed there are to what packages were going to be affected. Probably on your bill as well
Just found out you get it back for $30 more. People should be outraged, just took in my motherinlaw who watched it so i had to pay. HBO only $15. I am ok with Verizon over Comcast but when contract ends Comcast will be looking good again. Totally unacceptable that they have done this for a simple channel that runs reruns all day.
Sad Sad Sad Verizon. Enjoy all your new tax money.
Pretty sure you got a lot more than GSN for $30.
Yes, that may have been all you wanted but you can't compare cost of HBO to package upgrade that gives a number of extra channels.
So Verizon want's more money. Watch the Game show network every once in a while and enjoy it. Now the Verizon bigwigs decide that it will cost me another 30$ a month to watch it. Nice way to treat a loyal customer who has been with you from the beginning of Fios. 15 Months from now I will see what other options are out there and you can say by by to a triple play customer.
7 months ago, I switched from Comcast to Verizon...I was told it would a 2 year contract @ the same rate. I purchased Extreme HD package. This package no longer carries GSN. I either have to upgrade, (pay more money), or downgrade (lose more channels)...I've talked to at least 3 people on the phone, and got three different solutions. Bottom line, they're brushing me off..Do you have anymore options?..Very frustrated!!!
Just learned of this too. If only I could convince my gf to get off of cable and onto something like Sling.
sling is not cable tv or anything not a cable tv like fios is cheaping than other like game show netork stlll on fios but watch buzzer gsn made end the network or go to buzzer ok buzzer owns on channel 9 fox ok gsn going off the air ok loss ratings
I would gladly give up the free Showtime for 2 years that was included with my bundle to get GSN back or buzzr tv added... I'm having match game with gene rayburn withdrawal. Verizon needs to fix this no gsn problem.... there are plenty of worthless channels they can drop in the extreme hd to make room for the probably 50 cents per subscriber they were giving gsn
It would not be the first time a channel was removed from Extreme, but left in the lowest and highest packages. Believe me I know. I was #2 In the community forums, and a member at launch. It did get me a trip to Vegas for the CES as a Verizon Exibitor. But that was in 2013. I have since found better ways to spend my time. And not hundreds of thousands of hours here! Bring back GSN!!!

Keep contacting them until you get the "right" supervisor. I just renewed my FIOS package and later I found out it was no longer in my package after YEARS of being there. When I renewed my deal I kept getting the person to assure me I would still have GSN AND OAN since they are in my top 10 channels of viewing. (Ask for your top 10 that you watch. I was surprised they could tell me this.) Anyway, after being assured I would still get them, I didn't get SGN so I called them back. The lady assured me she would "Grandfather" me in within 72 hours. I wasn't after 5 days so I called back yesterday. They upped my package at no cost to me -- I have to wait until March 21st to call to have them discount my deal. I'll see then if I need to get hold of their "recorded calls" tape because if they don't give me the deal they said, I'm taking them to the FCC. I have no interest in the package they upped me to except for GSN. When will they let us go through the list of channels and pick what we want and charge us that way? It'd be much easier. Out of ALL of their channels, I'm really only interested in about 10 of them, semi-interested in roughly 20. (the extra 10 I just watched once in a great while.
Call them and complain. KEEP calling until you get what you want at no extra cost. I did. I just renewed my OLD plan last Monday. After being assured I would get the SAME package, I renewed. Found out it wasn't true. Called and kept calling. I now have GSN at no extra cost. The charge for the changes but then "discount" you for them. If things don't go the way they said, I WILL be calling the FCC.
I know their contract but if you sign up and a few months later channels are taken away I counter with a violation of the Verizon credo. This states: We keep our commitments to each other and to our customers. Our word is our contract. We respect and trust one another, communicating openly, candidly and directly since any other way is unfair and a waste of time.
When I Tweeted about GSN after signing on for less than six months the agent arrogantly responded with a link to the contract. I sent her back the Verizon credo.
Verizon credo: We keep our commitments to each other and to our customers. Our word is our contract. We respect and trust one another, communicating openly, candidly and directly since any other way is unfair and a waste of time.
We renewed our fios contract a couple months ago. We have been watching GSN since then. All of a sudden GSN is only available with an upgrade. How can Verizon remove channels during a contract? I thought changes could only be made after the contract time is up.
Contract slows deletes and adds during term. Which is fairly standard amongst providers. Changes are usually made around contract renewals with content providers. And usually involves a fee increase. So some packages could be dropped to limit increases.
This sounds totally wrong for you guys that are under contract. Verizon has their early termination fees written into the contract, so that prevents you from going anywhere. There really needs to be some LAW in place that protects the customers, or gives them the option of cancelling the contract without any penalties if the vendor makes any changes.
In this case, Verizon isn't even deciding to no longer carry the channel, they are simply moving it to a higher costing tier. In effect, that has changed the contract that you signed and you should be able to cancel without any fees.
I'm no longer under contract, and I'm getting annoyed at the number of channels that are being dropped due to carriage contract disputes.
As Verizon likes to say "Verizon works hard on behalf of our Fios TV customers to deliver the best TV service; with the programming you have come to expect at a reasonable price. We don’t want to increase customers’ rates due to unfair price increases from programming partners, and we’ll work tirelessly to ensure that does not happen."
The problem with that is, by dropping the channel, that means Verizon has actually reduced the amount they are paying for content (save for Bloomberg, as my understanding is that it was previously provided for free and they now wish to charge providers for the content).
I have yet to see my bill go down in cost even though Verizon has dropped The Weather Channel, Bloomberg, and Univision - and probably more that I haven't even noticed.
I switched to Verizon because I got tired of Directv dropping channels, and I switched to Directv because I got tired of Dish doing the same thing. If it continues I will drop Verizon.
We literally watch HGTV, some sports and (formerly) GSN. Other than that, Netflix and other streaming services have what we need. The fact we pay what we pay and can’t watch rerun game shows tells you exactly how much trouble Verizon is in. Days are numbered for these cable oligopolies. It’s a shame this legal extortion has gone on as long as it has.
Blame the content providers.
they are the ones who require cable companies to bundle channels together.
notice how none of the streaming services over a la carte.
plus streamers get away without some of the fees imposed by local governments.
as more people cut cable, local governments will try and impose more few.
either streaming services or on intenrt providers.
