1.6.2

Just received my update in VHO 5, HD Channels are great, but SD remains dull. I think Verizon FIOS should stick to telephones. Get out of the TV business. Their FIOS solution Center personnel are nasty, asked a question they want to transfer you to sales, no time to listen to your problems. Everyone gives FIOS advise but they are slow in looking into them. Why pay so much for a service that does not work properly? My billing was over $300 for February and March, they claimed that I was prorated and had 2 additional computers configured. They contacted foreman who supervised my install and they found out they made a mistake. How much money have I lost since switching from Time Warner Cable? I would say approximately $250. FIOS needs to get their act together.

I received the 1.6.2 update in So. Cal on 4/14 as scheduled.  I am now getting a 2-3 second loss of audio and video when watching HD programs. This happens randomly about once every 2 hours.  I have reset the STB with the same results.  Anybody else have this 'feature'  ????

I have noticed this since the upgrade, too. In addition, on my QIP2500 box, when I change channels, the info box appears for a split second with the correct info, then reverts to the info from the previous channel, which remains for about three seconds before going back to the info for the new channel.

WheninRome and babyeggo,

I had the same problem of no audio over HDMI after the update.  To make a long story short, the fourth replacement STB the Verizon tech  tried fixed the problem.

Good luck!

Hi all  well the  verizon techs came to my home  today and switched my stb from 6416 to 7416 i did notice some improvement on my std pic quality . i now have option of  both hdmi  and component cables hooked up and can interchange for picture prefernce Component gives a  little more  grainy picture vs. hdmi at least on my sony bravia. i choose hdmi with hd setting to 1080i and sd over ride set to off. It works for me . the std overide setting 480i is also ok  but i prefer off.I guess it boils down to personal  preference.but the techs were very helpful and were anxious to see results for this last update and 7416 box. also both techs  have sony bravia tv,s in their homes.I did notice a slight delay in sound when changing channels maybe a second or two but that wasnt an issue with me .At least now std def channels are viewable. so it seems that the 1.6.2 fix didnot improve 6416 stb  but did improve in the7416 stb . Hope this post is helpful to you  .

I am still at 1.6.0 in VHO4.  This post is VERY disappointing.  I was looking forward to the 1.6.2 update just to get a decent PQ on the SD channels.  Based on the razor sharp ads from a year ago, I thought Verizon would be capable of providing decent video on an SD channel with the HD STB they gave me.  Comcast could.  Verizon seems to be incapable of doing so.  About a year ago I got FIOS.   I had several service calls.  One was on 4/21/2008, ticket number MDDQ020BB8.   The tech acknowledged there was an issue and there would “probably” be a firmware update “sometime soon” to improve the SD PQ.  I even brought the SD 2500 STB up from the clubroom and showed him how much better the PQ was on SD channels.  He said it was obvious.   I showed him the difference on both live SD channels and SD VOD.  For almost a year I’ve put up with this.

I am so angry.  I pay over $200 monthly.  I would think FIOS was the greatest if I could enjoy BBCA, Comedy Central, Weather Scan, and other SD channels as I did with Comcast on my Panasonic Plasma.   I especially miss good quality SD VOD (e.g. HBO VOD is not available in HD).   FIOS, you do a great job with HD.  If you watch any SD content however, forget about it.

I feel your pain J-Scott

FiOS's HD can't be beat, but as much as I hate Cablevision, they at least supplied a half decent SD picture.

matcart, it DIDN'T work for me.

I THINK WE ALL SHOULD DEMAND THAT FIOS PROVIDE THE BEST SERVICE AS PER THEIR COMMERCIAL. I SWITCH BECAUSE OF THE PROMISE THEY MADE TO THE CONSUMERS WHO SWITCH FROM CABLE/DISH. AS STATED IN MY PREVIOUS POSTING, THEIR FIOS SOLUTION CENTER ARE NOT COURTEOUS TO PAYING CUSTOMERS, WHY TAKE THIS ABUSE. I AM, AND I PRESUME OTHERS ARE, WILLING TO PAY THE $$ TO BREAK AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACT AND BACK TO CABLE. MUTINY, MUTINY, WILLING TO JUMP SHIP, CANT SWIM BUT WILLING.Robot Sad

We got the update at 2:30am this morning. When it was done it left me with audio and no video on two STB's. Now if only I can get a discount since I am only receiving the audio.Smiley Indifferent

I received the 1.6.2 upgrade last month and still looking for the SD picture quality to improve.  I'm in Southeast Pa.  The 2 worst channels are CBS Channel 3 and Comcast Sportsnet Channel 76.  A week ago, the Sixers were on Comcast Channel 76 and ESPN Channel 70.   The difference in picture quality was quite noticeable.  ESPN was crystal clear in SD, Comcast was off color and blurry by comparison.  I was told once it could be the feed being provided.  So I ask why Verizon doesn't do something about the feed?  If it's the feed, could Comcast be doing this on purpose in hopes Verizon customers become disenchanted with FIOS and switch back to Comcast?

Hello, everyone! I often check out this forum as a resource, but this is my first post here...

We got the 1.6.2 update here in the LA area this morning. Most of our TV's (including HD ones) are working well with the update.... except for the one that counts most: The Family Room.

It gives an error message of "HDMI audio unavailable" - and of course, now has NO sound. I checked the HDMI connections, shut off power to everything for 30 seconds & turned back on, and still.... no sound since updating to 1.6.2.

It's an HP 50-inch 720p/1080i plasma, by the way. The STP is a Fios HD/DVR 6416-2. Any ideas?

WheninRome... no idea.

I have a 6416-2 DVR hooked up to a Sony 55" rear-projection LCD HDTV via HDMI.  No issues with audio with latest 1.6.2 firmware.

I wish we would get a warning when an new build was coming.  Just got mine (build 08.58) and I thought my recievers were fried for 30 minutes.  First an error code that looked like E609.  Then a DL or D1 with a running cursor.  Finally an FP appeared.  I reset the router twice and eventually reset.

Even now, there is no timestamp in the System Information to validate the build was actually the issue.

You didn't have a message on each of your STBs? I did, it told me the update was coming, you might want to check and see, even after the fact.

As far as I know, Verizon has never identified a build by date, just a level and a build number.

Works for me.
