I called up to see if i could upgrade my 2 DVRs to a newer model box, becuase the 6416 is so slow with the new software.
They filed a service ticket and will look into it, but it appears the company policy is to give customers the run around.
I'm sorry, the guide isnt even full screen 16:9, its still 4:3 why? (hardware limitation), the box cant even navigate through its own menu settings without being a step behind (and i have two of the boxes, same slow performance).
My father has direct TV and it performs faster when going through the menu/guide. It even has full IMDB listings as a feature in the info boxes thats easy to navigate.
I used to make fun of cablevision for having pathetic digitalTV service, with slow menus, slow performing hardware boxes... Now FiosTV seems to be as bad and I cant recommend it. Perhaps It is time to finally stop turning away the Cablevision salesman that keeps coming to my house.
I've been on FIOS for around 6 years now. I was one of the first in my area anxiously waiting to be an early adopter of fiber to home. The internet service is still phenominal, but the TV boxes are just junk, and I cant see why I have to sit through a ticket, and wait for a call back just to get hardware that can actually run their TV service at an acceptable level.
Not only is the new guide terrible, it performs even worse. On top of that, being forced to use a 4:3 TV guide listing on a 50inch 16:9 HDTV is unacceptable.
Paying customers should not have to put up with such nonsense.
I simply want 2 new DVR boxes, so i can nagivate the menus/guide and not overshoot each menu item because of the GUI lag. I've had these old boxes for a few years now. The issue is clearly obsolete hardware that cant even display a 16:9 TV guide, let alone render a GUI with realtime interaction. Every menu action is a step behind my input...
This long time FIOS customer and early adopter finds this unacceptable.

Unless your father is lucky enough to have an HR24, I really doubt his box moves faster on directv, those things get bogged down all the time.
I would strongly recommend trying to upgrade your dvr model before cancelling, the more recent models seem to have no issues running the software.

I don't have a DVR, I found out that comcast doesnt' have that big picture/channel thing at the bottom of the page, so I am going to switch, I think my contract is up in April, and I am going to call them Tuesday and found out, this new guide is so stupid, and there is no way to shut it off. RCN years ago, use to give you the option of turning it off.
I will be going to other neighbors houses to see how their cable screen is, one has comcast and the other has dish..so i'll see, wish i could change it next week

I'm not canceling yet. I'm trying to get the boxes upgraded. I called Fios today and they're looking into the slow down but didnt seem at all interested in sending me 2 newer boxes.
I'll get to see Direct Tv again this weekend. Ironically i'm going to my fathers to fix his tv setup, as it was struck by lightning. One of the joys of owning direct Tv in the mountains.
I wouldnt switch to DirectTV, but I would switch to cablevision if their service has improved. I suspect it hasnt but, I'm more willing to keep an open mind about it now.

Yes, yes yes. The new guide is terrible, slow, buggy etc.
However, that is the least of it. With the new software my DVR no longer works and after hours of trouble shooting pressing menu button still causes FIOS STB box to just crash and reboot.
Got rid of one of our DVR's a few months ago when tech support couldn't get it working arfter 2 months. As much as I like the programming I may have to go back to cable if they don't get this fixed in reasonably short order.

Why don't you just go to FIOS local office and exchange 6416 for 7216?

no, who knows what other crazy things they are going to come up with. I was on the phone for over. THE GUIDE SUCKS, I HATE THE COLORS, they throw in extra new channels now and you click on it and it's a demand movie for rent...wasts my time.
It's good I have until March 9th to search out my next cable/tv/internet company..whew

I'm looking around the site now to find a way back to the old OS. They forced the upgrade on me last night in the middle of the hockey game--which I had recorded and was watching an hour behind realtime--and it kept throwing me to Live TV every time I tried to skip ahead or repeat back. The colors and contrast of the new menu are ridiculous! I can't read a **bleep** thing! My mother said she saw an option to skip the upgrade when she turned on her TV and was able to avoid the madness. I'm trying to find a way back! Hate hate hate the upgrade!
