My parents recently got an LG 27LQ625S television, and have it connected to the small Verizon cable box...not sure model, but it's the "media client" box. They are old and not tech savvy at all, and would like to be able to control (most functions of) both the smart TV and cable box with one remote—either the LG or the Verizon one. Is that possible, or do we need to get a "universal" type remote?

Also, the intent is to control more than just the inputs, volume, and power on the TV. Need to be able to use the smart functions as well, e.g. arrow buttons, selection button, etc.
Sorry I assumed you had the newer boxes and remotes. Look here for progrmming instructions:

Look for P265 remote instructions.

Yes, it is possible to control most basic TV functions using the Fios One remote. You have to program the remote for the TV by going to :
Main Menu > Settings > Voice Control > Fios TV Voice Remote > Program Fios TV Voice Remote>Auto Setup
and following the instructions. If for some reason that doesn't work, go to the same menu and choose Manual Setup and input the make and model manually. They should be able to change inputs, change channel and control volume with the Fios remote.

Note, the remote isn't the Fios TV One remote, it's the old school mutlicolored one like this (except I'm not sure if it's a 2-device or 4-device remote): https://enpfvioj5m4.exactdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/p265_Remote.jpg
