About a week ago the fan on my DVR became very noisy. The fan is constantly running and it is very annoying to listen to. Is there something I can do to fix this? If it can't be fixed I want to down grade to something that does not have this issue. The model is Motorola HD DVR QIP 7216 P2 500 GB.
Thank You,
Randall

A very noisy fan is not normal. It could be as simple as a dirty fan. Try blowing it out with some canned air. Or it could indicate the DVR is going to fail. Though some noisy DVRs will continue working for a long time.
If the air doesn't help, contact support and ask about a replacement.
You will lose all of you recorded shows when you replace it. But you can transfer your settings to the cloud, then import them into the new one.
Menu > Settings > Save Settings
Restore Settings to put them on the new DVR.

Some other users have mentioned having the same problem on these forums.
Their fix was to change the led brightness on the dvr to anything but high. If its on normal then change it to the lowest setting then back again.
Kind of an odd fix, but worth a shot to see if it works for you since it seems to have worked for others.
Go into your menu > settings > led brightness
I'd still get a new box, because even if changing the led brightness works, you shouldnt have to do that.

I had the same problem with this DVR. I ended up going through three of them. Each time, Verizon stated that they had never heard of the problem. I told them that they should check out their message board as there were numerous complaints about this DVR. I asked if I could get a different model and they stated there was no way to know what model was in the box. I guess by chance, when the fourth one came in, I got the new black motorola 7232 and have not had a problem since. Keep trying and maybe you can get the new one. It has been dead quiet since the moment I plugged it in. No fan even on startup.

Going to a fios store is the easiest way to get the box that you want.
