You can connect eSATA devices to 7216 boxes.

lordofring is correct, you can connect an eSATA drive to this model DVR. However, there are a few things you might want to consider:

  • An upgrade to a 500GB DVR is $40
  • If the DVR you are upgraded to does not have an RF (coaxial cable) out, you can purchase a composite to coax adapter for about $20
  • To purchase a Verizon approved 500GB eSATA expansion drive is about $73
  • To purchase a Verizon approved 1TB eSATA expansion drive is about $110
  • If you use any other expansion drive, Verizon may not help you if you can't get it to work.
  • If you need to swap your DVR box for any reason, you will also lose the recordings on the expansion drive as they will not be viewable from your next DVR.

Link to Verizon page on eSATA storage devices.

Thanks for the info. I have seen on the web site that they are charging 70.00 to upgrade the DVR. I also didn't see anything o nthe web site saying that my DVR can use an External Hard Drive. That may be better to get one that upgrade my DVR. Since I have about 70% of my DVR harddrive full now since my wife is behind in heI have one of those and really dont like them cause I have my DVR and our Wii plugged into one of those devices.

I will list the three drives shown as recommended by Verizon. These are available from the Western Digital website. Feel free to shop around. The only difference I could find between options 2 and 3 is that option 3 comes with the optional USB 2.0 connection. For the purposes of DVR expansion, this makes no difference. Before purchasing I would contact Western Digital to make sure that each of these models come ready to use and don't require additional accessories.

  1. WD 500GB
  2. WD 1TB
  3. WD 1TB Retail
