Does Verizon Fios TV usually use the router for the internet to give cable tv

My mom turned off the router because we were using the internet too much but it stopped the TV from working. The DVR said that it couldn't connect to the network. It wouldn't even let me watch regular TV.

Does Verizon Fios use the router that is for browsing the internet to send the television channels to the DVR instead of something else like a seprate router or cables instead of wi-fi. Is this a technical error on their part or is this like this for everyone? I'm sort of mad. My internet speed is slow (takes several seconds to load a plain webpage without videos) and maybe this is why.

It depends on setup.

If you have VMS and ipcs, the VMS uses qam direct from ont.

ipcs use IP to connect to VMS and probably route via router to get there.

Thanks. I'm not knowledgeable about what those acronms mean. Do you mean if they turned on multi-room dvr it all does through the router, even viewing regular channels? How do I make it not use the router to provide cable? Thanks.

No, ipcs must use the router as they do not have tuners of their own.

They are slaves to the VMS.

In addition to th Ip1100 boxes requiring the intranet for TV signals, the VMS uses the internet for functions like the Guide and On-demand.  Essentially you must have the router on and working.
