Did you use a high-speed certified HDMI cable to hook the box up to your TV?
Look here first and make sure the Video Format matches the full capability of your TV:
Main Menu > Settings > Audio & Video > Video Settings>Video Format
Also look directly under that setting and see if SD Override is off or set to stretch.
You may be looking at SD channels. Tune to anything over the channel# 500 and see if it looks better.
Can more details about the television, the STB, the cabling and connections between the STB and the television be posted?
