Fios TV service without receiver

Hello,

Is it possible to keep Fios TV service without a receiver? I haven't used ours in over a year, and tend to use the channel apps, which require me to authenticate with our Verizon account to verify the channel is part of our Fios TV Service

In any case, I stopped by the Verizon store at the mall to return my receiver and I was told the system won't allow them to remove it from my account unless I cancel the Fios TV Service, which didn't sound right to me.

Could you confirm that this is accurate? The guy didn't seem very helpful, so I just want to double check.

In any case, I am sure I am not the only who does this. What are my options if I can't return the receiver without canceling the service

By the way, I have a triple play package, but I haven't been under contract for probably 2 years now. Don't really use the phone service either, but do need the internet

Thanks

Victor

To the best of my knowledge, Verizon won't activate television service without an STB.

From a physical standpoint, yes. I once experimented by moving the cable from the back of the STB and connecting it to the television and having the TV scan for channels. The TV saw OTA stations and subchannels.

Oh well. It definitely works by connecting the cable directly into my TV, but the channel availability is not the greatest.

I was hoping I could continue to pay for the Fios TV service without the receiver and I just use my Verizon account to activate the individual channel apps and watch TV that way

Kind of silly of Verizon for not allowing you to do that. I am now looking into Live TV Streaming services to cancel Fios TV from my account

Thanks

Do you have a smart-TV or some kind of streaming stick?

As long as you are paying for Fios TV, and have Fios internet, you should be able to stream almost everything you need using your Fios credentials to log on. You don't need to hook cable up to the TV.

I do, but I want to keep Fios TV service without the receiver, so that I can continue accessing the channels via the channel apps. In other words, I don't want to pay for the receiver since I don't use it.

Verizon won't let me keep the Fios TV service without the receiver apparently.

Guess getting that rental fee makes a big difference to them.....
