I currently have 1gb internet with coax based TV. Tivo with a cable card. My long time Verizon tech friend has advised me that I will receive an email signallying the end to RF based TV. Everything moving to streaming. I have no idea if that will be in 3 months or 3 years, but he indicated that it was coming sooner than later. That will be the end to my cable card and Tivo equipment which I have loved for years and years.
So, I'm looking at it's replacement which is a Tivo like experience with DVR for 6 or 7 TV's. No understand my monthly rental from Verizon for the past 10 years has been 4.99/month for the cable card. Everything else was Tivo bought years ago.
My tech threw me a loop the other day when he said that the Verizon stream TV box sold at the verizon stores is just a simple verizon branded android TV box and won't work with the Verizon TV+ service.
This box is the ASK-STI6220. I bought one from Verizon to see what the interface was like. There is a place where you log into your verizon account. Since I don't have a streaming package nothing really happened. There is a "live" tab which points to the free android offerings. I had assumed that once there is a Verizon streaming package, this would be replaced by the Verizon Streaming channels.
So... My big questions is this. Is my tech wrong that this box won't work on a TV+ subscription? Or will it? Can someone who has Verizon TV+ with the small retangular black box check the model number and see if it is ASK-STI6220.
Like i did with my Tivo, I will buy these boxes for use with the TV+ service, but there is NO WAY will I pay rent on them. I'll ditch verizon alltogether and use a streaming service.
I'm also told that all the movie channels that I have accrued (HBO, SHO & Others), for my loyalty will go away once the RF plan is no longer available. This most certinly does not work for me. I"ll assume that I'll take 10.99 off for each of those loyalty packages and expect my bill to be lowered, or time to move on.
So, let me know if you can help me understand if I can purchase equipment for STB's under the new TV+ streaming service.
