What are the benefits of taking advantage of the free replacement option being offered for the QIP6416 STB?

The 6416 is the oldest HD-DVR in Verizon's line-up. It has the smallest recording capacity and no expansion capability (no external hard drive connectivity).
Where are you hearing about a free replacement option? Everything I've seen says it's a $40 upgrade.

From the FiOS TV Remote:
Menu -- Customer Support -- In Home Agent -- Help Topics -- Set Top Box Exchange --
Do I need to exchange my Set Top Boxes?
(direct wording shown below)
"We are upgrading our network to support high definition technology and increase our channel lineup in select packages.
Some high definition Set Top Boxes (Motorola model numbers 6200 and 6416) are not compatible wth our upgraded network. You will not be able to view these new channels on any Set Top Box that is identified as incompatible. If you subscribe to an impacted package, when you try to tune to one of the new channels on an incompatible high definition Set Top Box, you will receive messaging on how to exchange your Set Top Box at no charge.
If you have high definition model numbers 6200 or 6416 (model number is displayed on lower left hand corner of the Set Top Box) and subscribe to an impacted package, you may exchange for a compatible model at no charge. Motorola model numbers 7100, 7216 and 7232 and all Cisco models are compatible and do not need to be exchanged."
To check whether your high definition set top boxes are compatible with your current TV package, one can go to:
Menu -- Customer Support -- In Home Agent -- Set Top Box Exchange.

I just received notification about the replacement option for my DVR Set Top Box. However, before I take advantage of this offer I would like to know what happens to the VOD Flex View movies I purchased and are stored on the box? I understand I lose all the recordings TV and movies I recorded, but what about the movies I purchased?

Flex View movies are stored on the cloud, not the STB, and are not impacted by an STB exchange.

The replacement that they send you also has a better guide. The 6416 doesn't take advantage of the HD Guide that FiOS has now. Also it doesn't do mpeg 4 channels, so there are a number of channels the 6416 (any 6xxx series box really) won't be able to watch.
Also you get ESATA support, which is great.

This is the whole reason why Verizon is swapping out the STBs for free Read Becca's post.

Hi guys,
This conversation is killing me. I have a 6416. I subscribe to the Extreme HD package. I live in VHO9. Yet when I follow the In-Home Agent's Set Top Box Exchange menu option, it says that my DVR is compatible with all of the content. Any ideas on why my DVR is not included in the exchange?

you probably don't subscribe to a package that has those MPEG4 channels. That seems to be the clincher for the upgrade.
