How do I know which set top box to order?

I've gotten notification that my set top box will be obsolete soon. How do I know which new set top box to order, and will I be charged for this service?

When upgrading to the 4100 series STBs, all existing STBs will be replaced.

In an instance where a subscriber has two STBs, Verizon will send a 4100 VMS ...which contains DVR functionality and a 4100 mini which acts like an extender off of the main STB.

When Verizon replaced my old Motorola STBs, I don't remember there being any sort of charge as I changed my cable television package from a legacy to the current "More Fios". šŸ¤”

Check with the Verizon Sales department to see if any fees will be assessed.

The 4100 series is the current STB hardware for legacy Fios television service. It consists of a main unit (the VMS) and a remote (the mini).

I'm not able to access my latest bill at the moment, but I believe that I pay $30/month to rent three STBs.

Verizon also provides a different STB for streaming service users. The STB looks similar to the 4100, but connects somewhat differently than the legacy STBs.

I currently have two STBs, one of which is also DVR; it's the other one which is giving me the 'obsolete' warning. It says "CHS 335HDC" in the lower-right corner of the front.

I'm not sure which STB I'm supposed to order to replace this one, nor do I know if I will get reimbursed for the change.

When I click the link from the original message I received from Verizon, it doesn't take me to anywhere where I can see exactly what I need to order to replace. Honestly, I consider this to be a poor system ... if I do need to replace my STBs, I should be directed exactly where to go to do so and should be told exactly what I need to order.

I'm still very much in the dark about this.

Everything is as dexman said in the post above. Your existing box goes back to 2009, so it is VERY old in tech years. The VMS 4100 and IPC 4100 will replace your existing boxes. The big question is are your ONT, router and splitter up to date enough to work with the upgraded equipment. You should call or chat with support and have a model number of the existing router so they can tell if it needs replacement. They should be able to tell from there which ONT you have. Any splitters should say 2Ghz on them or they sill need to be replaced too. They may have to send out a tech to install it all for you.

Not necessarily. As someone that recently resubscribed to TV service after a couple months without it, I was sent the new equipment for what's being called Fios TV+. I've been told that the old VMS 4100 and IPC 4100 are no longer being shipped from the warehouse. The new equipment, confusingly still called the 4100, consists of a VMS4100ATV, which acts as the DVR/Server and does not connect to the TV; and the Verizon Stream (V2) box, which does connect to the TV and acts as the "cable" box. I was not informed this would be the equipment I'd receive when I placed the order. I'd assumed I'd be receiving the old VMS4100 and IPC4100. So just be aware.

The key word is "resubscribed". The existing television service was cancelled. Verizon would treat reactivation as a new service.

The OP hasn't terminated the television portion of the Fios service.

Understood, though there have been some threads/posts I think here - and on reddit - from people that had their existing equipment replaced with the new setup. Some Fios techs on reddit have mentioned it as well, as it's part of Fios' movement to get out of delivering TV via RF/QAM.

I might be mistaken, but if the new STB represents a new product offering. If that is, indeed, the case, then the customer would need to agree to the service change. šŸ¤”
