Well, there apparently is something wrong with 1.7 or I think Verizon would have continued the rollout. I have no idea what the problem(s) with 1.7 may be, so you very well may be correct. Hopefully the rollout will resume soon and TX and CA will get the updated version first.

@Carl wrote:The Solution (?????)
The problem appears to have resolved by setting the SD Override settings to OFF while watching the TV using the HDMI connection and then switching over to the component and setting the SD Override to OFF.
Again, I don't know if this is a 1.7 issue or one that was also in 1.6.2, since I really didn't piece it all together until recently.
(SD Override is still set to OFF)
Turns out, my SD Overide Setting went back to 480i.
Why can't the default just be OFF, and let the user decided if they want stretch-o-vision for their SD viewing experience (or add MSNBC-HD and then I'd never notice (yes, i know the whole cablevision exclusviity thing....)).

Because then there would be a lot of people complaining that their picture no longer fits the screen. SD override was added because they were getting constant complaints that the sd picture would not fit the screen. At first it was a hidden screen to make that change, but they got SO MANY complaints about the pic size that they decided to add the sd override into the menu for easy access and make it default so that it works like the cable companies. So they dont get the "I never had this problem with xxxxxxxx!"

Well dag nab it. So all I can hope for is that the setting sticks then.
Why do people like Stretch-O-Vision? I'll never understand.

The answer is pretty simple I think (and I definitely have seen this articulated on forums): they paid big money for that big wide screen and by darn they are going to use all of it so they get their moneys worth. I don't understand it either but that is the position some take. I hate Stretch-O-Vision!!!
FWIW, I never lose my SD Override setting (OFF), hasn't changed for about 4 years now except when I have gone in and changed it when I am experimenting with something.

I agree with you that that is the reason. Those people shouldn't have HDTV's. (I kid)
Anyway Justin, how is your 6416 setup? Are you using both the HDMI and component? I am wondering if I am losing my SD Override setting when I turn on my receiver while the TV is off (or is turning off). I wonder if there is some logic in the 6416 that resets some settings when it doesn't detect a TV at the end of the HDMI chain, since the outputs on the 6416 are never off.
What I may try next is to disable that notice that says the TV is on (if I can, time to SEARCH), but the box is off. I wonder if that will actually shutdown the HDMI output.

So, when I hit MENU, there was a large message that popped us that said a new IMG is coming, starting tonight.
So, do VHO1 and VHO3 get their updates to 1.7 tonight?

Carl,
I have not seen that message, I am not at home now (I am in AT&T territory at our lake house ), but am going home a little later today so I guess I will see the message then. But from what I have heard it appears that IMG 1.7C (we suposedly got 1.7A back in late Sept.) will start being distributed either this week or next, and I would think that Verizon would replace the original 1.7 in the areas that originally got it first before doing any other parts of the country. And tuesday night seems to generally be the "distribution day" for new IMG levels. So my guess is yes we will.
I have not answered your question in your other post yet, it is going to take a little more time to put it together. But I will answer.

We got it last night apparently, at least out here in VHO3. My build number is now 09.83. IMG is still 1.7 (not a surprise).

OK, then I guess we would have it now too. Do you see any changes or improvements? (It is probably way too soon to ask but I can't resist....)
