This stinks

Thanks for posting the link bgib.  The upshot is (again) the next two home series will be in standard def.  Stephen Strasburg, the #1 pick in last year's draft, will make his MLB debut in standard def for FIOS customers like me.  My family and I will be next door at my neighbor's house, watching the game in HD on COX.

I am posting the text below from WaPo writer Dan Steinberg's DC Sports Bog, for those who don't want to follow the link:

Regardless of which date Stephen Strasburg debuted at Nats Park next homestand, it was going to be on MASN2, which has the entire six-game stint. This was unwelcome news to a bunch of my readers, who wanted to know why their Verizon FiOS service has MASN HD, but not MASN2 HD.

The short answer is that this is a FiOS issue, not a MASN issue. The network offers the MASN and MASN2 SD and HD signals to all of its 24 cable/satellite/fiber optic affiliates, and it's up to them to identify which channels they'll carry, according to a MASN spokesman.

So I then asked a FiOS spokesman, with a nod toward Strasburg's debut. Her response.

"While we may not have MASN2 HD in time for Stephen Strasburg's debut, it is one of the channels we're looking to add to the FiOS TV lineup soon."

If you look at MASN's provider list, you'll notice that there are a few other subscribers who won't have access to MASN2 HD (DISH Network folks, and a few other pockets of cable subscribers in farflung regions of Delaware, Virginia, Western Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia). But for the close-in non-DISH people, everyone but FiOS subscribers should be set for MASN2 in HD.

Again - this will NOT be added until they have more channel capacity!

I don't see MASN2 HD getting added before next week, but there will be room for four channels opening up on about 6/21. I would guess that this would make room for the 3D Yankees games in early July, but I'm hoping they could still add MASN2 HD before that since the teams' footprints do not overlap.

WARNING:If you are a fan of the Nats or O's do NOT sign up for FiOS, only 1/2 the games are in HD.

I made a big mistake of switching from Directv a couple of months before the Nationals season started.  Since it was announced last year that all of the games would be available in HD on MASN and MASN2, I never imagined that Verizon would only be carrying half the games in HD.

You all left us out in Fairfax County - we get lousy standard definition for MASN2, incluing tonight for the Strasburg debu.  Verizon is way behind the other TV carriers.

I just want to add my vote - add MASN2 HD as soon as possible please!

I live 14 miles from Nationals Park and right now I can see the O's get crushed by the Yankees in HD but can't watch the debut of who may turn out to be one of the best pitchers ever in horrible standard def!

This is ridiculous, Strasburg's debut tonight is probably the biggest game in the history of the Nationals, and I can't watch it in HD.  Look at the providers on MASN's web site, everyone from Antietam in Hagerstown to SkyBest in West Jefferson, NC, to of course Comcast and Cox carry MASN2 HD, yet Verizon doesn't.

I love the newly found outrage of all these media types. I even read a blog from a supposed hardcore Nationals guy who didn't realize that MASN2 was on channel 1. He even acknowledged at the end of his blog that he had just found out where it was, proving that he never watches the Nationals on TV, and obviously didn't care until Strasburg's start. With regards to this article by Rob Pegoraro, he is correct that Verizon has dropped the ball on this. Even though he also blames MASN, they produced the game in HD and offered both feeds to all their providers. While it would have been nice for me personally, I never expected MASN to swap this game with the Orioles game. From their business angle, look how much more publicity it generated about the Verizon - MASN2 HD situation. Plus, a lot more casual fans also know now where to find MASN2 on their cable systems. Besides, both teams' TV schedules were set before the season started and each team was given equal time on MASN and MASN2. I don't expect them so switch it around based on my personal viewing. I just want my video provider to carry both HD channels!

Joe (@fiostv) has said that he was promosed he can share more info with us on Twitter about MASN2 HD on 6/11. Less than two weeks till 4 HD west movie channels are removed to open up some space........
