So I have the new guide and on my bedroom widescreen TV/HD box I get the guide in 16:9 with more information on the screen at once. My HD/DVR however only shows the guide in 4:3. Is there a setting I can use to get the guide in 16:9?

What is the model of your DVR if the first two digits are 62 (6200 series), then no, you cannot get the 16:9. You need a 7000 series.
Its 6 series. In fact 64 not 62 for DVr's. 6416 for dvr and 6200 for STB.
