I agree.
The wiz kids who produced this piece of garbage had the ability to allow the consumer to keep the old screen format if they wanted to.
The new screen is repulsive it makes me want to wretch.
1. There is To much clutter on the screen. The same icons that clutter the screen can be found on the hand controller. Waste of screen space resulting in a smaller formatted screen
2. , Current picture is on the left of the screen and is much smaller.
3. The second screen is useless to me and takes up time.
4. The Colors are nauseating.
5. Smaller looking Font, and although the version personnel says the Font is actually larger doesn’t make it so if it looks smaller to the user. It’s a slight of hand by version. Why? I don’t know.
6. The channels change extremely slower than the previous screen.
7. If verizon wanted to improve anything they could have just produced a lighted program changer so you don’t have to turn on the light every time you want to change the channel
The audacity from the Verizon reps to actually say online {get used to this issue} is harmful an he /she should be reported to the corporate affairs at verizon.
If you want to make a statement go back to COMCAST until the VERIZON PEOPLE TAKE ALL OF THEIR CUSTOMERS SERIOUS.
Sincerely
Rocky

I agree with Rocky. The new guide SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. The color contrasts they picked are awful I need to put my glasses on to read it. WAY TOO MUCH clutter on the screen. Why is there not an option to keep the OLD view. We are the customers why not take a poll before making a major change like this ? Seriously considering going back to comcast. They suck too but suck less than verizion Im sorry I switched. Dont care for the on demand either.

Dont like change, huh? I disagree with everything you said.
Go explore all f the new settings and play around before dismissing everything
Give yourself 2 weeks to get used to it. Your eyes will adjust
Changing channels is faster than ever
Remote control responsiveness is faster than ever
Remote DVR access through remote control buttons is faster than ever
The ability to operate the DVR (i.e. schedule & delete recordings) from any TV is a huge plus
If you're not using these features then you should probably switch back to the stone age of cable anyway.

Think of it in these terms if you will. You test drive a car and you don’t like the way it drives, so you test drive another car just like the first one but you still don’t like it. Two weeks will not make you like the experience any more then the first two you had.
I have given you my opinion respectively
I would presume you can appreciate I did it in a civil manor
Sincerely
Rocky

speed of changing channels is irrelevant, a web app can easily support multiple skins, either revert the horrific colors and fonts which are very hard when not sitting a foot from my bog screen tv, or at least offer a config setting for bigger less light colored fonts.

The new system sucks.
I only subscribe to the basic TV package, although I also have telephone and internet included.
The new system is slower, a lot slower than the old version.
The light gray on white icons are dumb. Even a student in basic 101 design knows better.
The guide if set to my favorites starts every time at channel 3. If I remove the setting it will start at the channel I am watching but will also display all the other channels that I do not subscribe to.
Apparently the system is filled with flaws because when I called customer service to resolve this problem I could hear the frustration in the customer service rep's voice.
Bottom line this new system is still full of flaws and should never have been put into service.

I do not agree with your statement about the flaws. I have had 1.9 for three months or so now and I find it works absolutely great. It works very fast, just as fast as 1.8 did, I love the new colors, much fresher and just as easy to read, and the Guide never starts on channel 3 with my Favorites. So I have not seen any of your issues, the only specific issue I have right now is the channel info box that pops up when you change channels covers 1/3 of the screen when I don't think it needs to take that much space, and it stays on the screen too long, about 10 seconds; I think we need some user settings to control how the channel info box works.
Now, what model STB(s) do you have? 1.9 does not work well on the older 6xxx boxes. If that is what you have then you should contact Verizon and request new boxes.
And what settings do you have for the Guide and your Favorites? Perhaps something needs to be changed if you have a current 7xxx STB(s).

I agree. The new Guide is a classic example of Tech Writing by someone who doesn't understand what they are doing. The purpose of the Guide is to present information in a simple, easy to read format. The new guide is anything but simple and easy to read. The colors are the biggest problem that I see. Dark gray on light gray? Light gray on blue/gray? I'm 70, but I have 20/20 corrected vision and I have to strain to read 25% of the text. Did not have that problem with the old format.

Yes, the new format is awful. Very poorly thought out.

My tv guide just changed. I thought it was something I did wrong and I spent forever trying to change it back. It is horrible. What was wrong with the old format?

This 'new' guide was just rolled out to my service. It is BAD BAD BAD.
This is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO USE FOR THE VISUALLY CHALLENGED!! My brother is partially blind, and the new format is horrible.
At least allow an option for the old menu!!

I have good eyesight and the new colors make the screen harder to read. I work on a computer everyday. You don't use a blue, black & gray background if you want it to be readable. All the other funcions are hindered by readability.

I guess beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder.
I absolutely LOVE the new guide and features and would never want to go back to the old one. To each his own I guess.
Nice job Verizon. I did everything but laugh at the Comcast guy that came to the house trying to convince me to switch back to Comcast the other day.

My DVR was "upgraded" last night and I had to sign up for this forum to agree that this new guide SUCKS! Why does everything have to be updated to the latest crap style? The old guide was easier to read and navigate. I truly believe if it ain't broke don't fix it. I love the FiOS internet service, but I am going to have to look into other DVR options and just get the $5 cable card option for my TV. I'm also going to be moving in 6 months and was looking for a place with FiOS. Well, that is just not as important to me now if this new guide is what I have to put up with. I even work for Verizon and can see that this is one of the reasons why the wireline division is going down in flames. The overpaid executives that make these decisions think new is better when it's not. I want my old guide back or I'm done with the Verizon DVR service.

I love my guide! It is quite nice with the HD 7100 and 7200 boxes, even when used on a 4:3 ratio TV. You must have the correct settings for the box. I believe the larget complaints are from SD users and people with older STB hardware. Mine looks great. Give it a chance and try the video and guide settings.

Yeah, those colors are horrible! It's hard on the eyes to try to read. I wish there was an option to keep the old colors. It does look like the font is slightly larger, but the colors make it harder to read from the same distance away.
I will give FIOS kudos for the added function to operate the DVR from any TV. I always wondered why that wasn't already a function.

Something that I haven't seen mentioned.
Under the previous guide, when you were watching a channel and you pressed the guide or favorites button the guide would come up centered on the channel you were watching.
Under the new guide, it comes up centered on a channel a few numbers above or a few numbers below the one you are watching.
This is very annoying. Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
Also, are there any instructions regarding the options available under "settings"?

Yes. It seems to be on the SD boxes. QIP-2500 and everyone hopes will be fixed soon because it is annoying.. The answer is to upgrade your box to an HD box that works just fine on a SD TV, but I know it is not the best answer, and also increases cost. But only by a couple dollars if you have more than one box. Like my previous post says, look for the 7100 or above series HD box.

My 2 6416 STB's do not allow the guide to be viewed in full screen mode. They appear to be stuck in SD view. Alos the information bar does not show up full screen either. I was told that the 6416 STB's are not capable of showing the guide in HD mode and that I would have to upgrade to a 6xxx series STB. This is becoming challenging. I first had to go through all the troubleshooting steps on the phone with tech suport but that did not work. Finally I was told here that the 6416 boxes would not work correctly in HD or fill up the screen. Hopefully soon I will get the upgraded boxes and all will be well, until next time.
