On Demand Fast Forward Changed after Reset

We just got the mini boxes (Not user friendly). I was watching a show on demand and my Samsung TV remote did 10 second skips instead of rewinding. I switched to the Fios remote would rewind. Starting the next show, on demand foze. I did a STB reset and it would only ff to commercials. Went to play it back this morning, no FF AT ALL.  Mind you, the show played all the way though so it's technically a rewatch which they used to let you fatlst forward freely because you'd already endured the commercials once. I'm afraid to reset the box again. Is there anything I can do specific to this feature?
