Ever since the new On Demand menu launched I have noitced a change in the pricing of On demand episodes on channels that I subribe to as part of my normal FIOS TV package. I first noticed this with a recent episode of Teen Wolf on MTV that I had started watching for Free two days prior then when I was switched over to the new On Demand menu that same episode had to be purchased for $1.99 for me to continue watching it. Next the same issue happened with the latest episode of the Vampire Diaries on CW. Assuming this was a mistake I called customer service and was told that it was the Channel providers MTV and CW not Verizon that had made price change for the episodes but was also told that I could watch these same episodes for free online. So I logged into Myverzion account online and and found that all the curent episodes were in fact free. This makes no scense at all. Why am I being charged extra to watch content on my TV that is free online. This totally defeats the purposed of paying for cable. The fact that I have to pay extra to watch content on my TV that is now only available for free online is ridiculous. Im convinced that this a mistake that started when the new On demand menu was released. Also I have checked at a few friends and relatives houses over the holidays and was able the to watch the exact same content (current episodes) for free On Demand with Direct TV and Comcast. So imagine tonight when I sat down to watch the latest epsode of Grimm On Demand on NBC with FIOS and found that I had to pay $1.99. I begrudgingly got up off my sofa logged into Myverzion account and found the very same episode is free to watch online. Please fix this mistake or I will be switiching to Direct TV ASAP.

There are plenty of shows that are free the day after they air on Comcast, but are being charged for on Verizon. It isn't a provider issue, it's a carrier issue.

On demand is a joke! Why would I have to pay for tv shows that are already on my PAID FOR verizon package. Enough already, I pay too too too much already for tv and internet that constantly goes out and I even bought the extra extender modem, another joke, because the internet still goes out.

Because the content provider is charging for them?

Absolutely nothing good to say....takes forever to find shows and then when you do you have to pay to watch it?????? I already pay a ton and have the all the movie packages but even just watch Duck Dynasty I would have to pay. If you pay for that channel you should not have to pay for past episodes. Rip off!

Try contacting the channel that ran it and ask why they are charging to watch on demand episodes

I’ve been saying this since they changed to the new awful viewer but here’s the deal Verizon doesn’t care. That’s been apparent.
They like to say it’s the networks that are charging but then that’s just Verizon’s poor negotiating skills since they are the ones who deal with the networks.
Calling the networks is impossible so don’t even try.
My solution is that if they are making me pay for shows I just give them up.
I just gave up The Shannara Chronicles for this reason. And when I move I will NEVER use Verizon for anything. So hope Verizon now makes tons of $$ for On demand and it was worth all the bad feelings they’ve acquired.

Content providers are charging everyone.
So Verizon can't negotiate something that they are doing to everyone.
And the money goes to content providers (I would assume cable companies get a percentage but bulk goes to content).

So we are brand new to fios.
My example is American Housewife on ABC. For this season, all of the first 4 episodes are free, and the one that aired just last week has a charge. 1 week old? Very disapointing.

So I just checked my on demand.
I see all 5 episodes of American Housewife as free for the current season.
Season 1 has a charge.

I started having this issue for the first time just recently and I think it has to be a bug. For me, there is no rhyme or reason to what is free and what is not. For example, for the new season of Arrow, the first and third (really recent) episodes are free, but the second is not free. Similar oddball examples for other shows.
Doesn't anyone or Verizon have a workaround or any information about resolving this?

They will tell you that it’s the networks who set the charges.
Ive tried quite a bit complaining and tbh they don’t care.
im looking forward to moving and never using Verizon again.
its really sad, because I used to think Verizon was great until this On Demand double charging began.
I wonder if if this was worth it for Verizon.

Before you move, I would suggest you see if the other provider offers more content free (ie episodes that show a charge on Verion).
My understanding is that you will see the same on another provider.
I am visiting my in laws and they have Cox.
From what I have seen, their on demand offerings are on par with what I saw on Verizon.
Haven't done extensive checks, but network shows are about the same.

Not the point at all.
Verizon never charged for old episodes until February 2017. So without any notice they just changed my services and now DOUBLE charge me for the channels I already pay for!
If I’m paying for SyFy why do I then have to pay for SyFy shows? How absurd is that!
This is a pretty simple concept: double charging.
If the new provider charges for this at least I’ll know when I sign.

What Verizon did was put paid and free content together.
So before then you may have only seen episodes from current season.
Then you had to go to another portion of on demand menus to find paid episodes.
Now you see them all together.

For the 100th time, not true.
I was was able to watch EVERYTHING on channels I pay for FREE.
I’d really appreciate it if you’d stop saying something that was not true for me. I know what it was because I used On Demand extensively.
Thanks.

You may have in the past (I don't have the same memory).
I can tell you by checking on other cable providers, FIOS has similar free offerings.
So it is possible that things have changed amongst a number of content providers to start charging for anything but the most recent episodes.

And again, I never had to pay for On Demand old episodes on all the channels I get via FIOS. NEVER.
Please stop trying to make up my story because what you are saying is not true for me.
Really annoying that that I have t keep defending what I know is true.
This is is not right that you keep doing that.

We have different recollections.
Unfortunately, neither one of us can prove which is correct.
My bigger point is we are here today.
And from what I have seen, it is the same with other cable providers.
So I would find it highly unlikely that Verizon will go to a system where older episodes are free when most if not all other providers are charging.
You may be upset about it, but I don't think you will find a difference elsewhere.
