On Demand charging for new episodes on Channels that I already subscribe to.

Ever since the new On Demand menu launched I have noitced a change in the pricing of On demand episodes on channels that I subribe to as part of my normal FIOS TV package. I first noticed this with a recent episode of Teen Wolf on MTV that I had started watching for Free two days prior then when I was switched over to the new On Demand menu that same episode had to be purchased for $1.99 for me to continue watching it. Next the same issue happened with the latest episode of the Vampire  Diaries on CW. Assuming this was a mistake I called customer service and was told that it was the Channel providers MTV and CW not Verizon that had made price change for the episodes but was also told that I could  watch these same episodes for free online. So I logged into Myverzion account online and and found that all the curent episodes were in fact free.  This makes no scense at all. Why am I being charged extra to watch content on my TV that is free online. This totally defeats the purposed of paying for cable. The fact that I have to pay extra to watch content on my TV that is now only available for free online is ridiculous.  Im convinced that this a mistake that started when the new On demand menu was released.  Also I have checked at a few friends and relatives houses over the holidays and was able the to watch the exact same content (current episodes) for free On Demand with Direct TV and Comcast.  So imagine tonight when I sat down to watch the latest epsode of Grimm On Demand on NBC with FIOS and found that I had to pay $1.99. I begrudgingly got up off my sofa logged into Myverzion account and found the very same episode is free to watch online. Please fix this mistake or I will be switiching to Direct TV ASAP.

It’s double charging. Not even sure how they’ve gotten away with it for a year.

When it it started it was only old shows. Now it even includes the current season.

We are being ripped off.

Your new on demand system is much harder to use and much slower to exit from. Went to watch TV last night and had dollar signs in front of network shows as well as channels (3) that I pay for. Why would episode 9 of the Blacklist have a dollar sign, But none one 8 or10? Pay channels the same. Had to call and was given a differant way to go into system, will try tonight. Employee also found system hard to use. Who ever came up with new format needs to rethink this one. Was so very frustrated, was almost ready to take the 350.00 contract hit and leave. As I said will re-try tonight when I get home from work . I will not re-pay for something I am already charged for. My bill would be thru the roof!

What's with this charging for TV shows in ondemand. I pay what i consider a pretty heavy price and now I'm expecting to pay for TV shows too. Verizon needs to fix this.  it's just making my decision to cut the cable cord that much easier. The other thing is this new ondemand interface. It's clunky and slow. Much harder to find the shows I'm looking for. There is an old saying, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

According to Verizon, no change in the number of shows being offered for free.

The new interface combines the paid ones with the free ones.

You can change the filter to only see free shows.

Paid content (other than VOD movies) are controlled by the content provider.

With respect, the point is that we already pay to view program on non-premium channels.  why should we pay a second time just to catch up on shows we missed.  This is the last straw.  i'll be finding out when my contract expires and switching back to Time Warner.  Switching to Verizon was a big mistake.

I checked some ot the complained about stuff with a friend who has TIme Warner(after merger with Charter and Brighthouse now called Spectrum).  Exact same episodes are pay per view as I see on Frontier (and am told are ppv on Verizon).  Verizon has told us that they do not choose which of these shows on these channels are pay per view and which are offered free with regular channel subscriptions.

They do choose how much additional to charge OVER what they have to pay the channel providers, and for those PPV movies they offer.

Bogus answer and you sound like a verizon apologist or employee. We already pay for a service. If verizon has to charge extra for shows now, then rework the overall package price so that people dont feel like they are getting ripped off. I pay for premium channels and was always able to watch older seasons if there was a series I wanted to catch up on. Why should I have to pay again? Its a bad business model and not our fault verizon is either greedy or bad at negiotiating with the networks. In the end, it will be verizon who suffers with great new content on amazon and netflix (especially with their new whole season avail at once model).

Stop posting the same apologist stuff for verizon. They need to pay the bill on this one. AND the new VOD format stinks.. Its like the common core of cable browsing formats.. Get your stuff together

Totally agree with you.

Move filed a complaint with the attorney general

on top of charging twice they didn't even inform us.

this is a bogus answer and you know it. I have had verizon for many years and USED to be able to watch any older series if I wanted to catch up. We are already paying for a service provider so to tell its because the vendor is charging us is bogus. Bad business model by verizon and this should be the finally nail in the coffin as I move to netflix and some others.

When someone says:  "according to Verizon", I dismiss it.  Verizon is not accountable to their customers.  Any time I've called VZ because they removed a channel or I'm not getting a channel in HD, they blame the networks.  Once you sign the dotted line, you are forced to live up to an agreement that they are free to disregard.  They don't care that we pay a lot of money for a service that ends up not being what we bargained for.  They don't care if any one of their systems is hard to use.  They could have saved a lot of money by leaving the ON DEMAND as it was instead of paying some schmuck to create this monstrosity.  Sorry Verizon but doubt you can tell the difference between truth and fiction.

I agree.  The new interface is just horrible.

They obviously fid did this just so they could charge for On demand.

The only result they they will see if loss of customers.

The text is so small, even with the large font setting, that I have to walk up to the tv to see what's going on. Showing the cover advertising instead of a simple list of shows is madness. If you want to watch a show that begins with a z, you'll be sitting there slowly scrolling (because the app is so slow) for 2 minutes to get to the end of the list.

I checked out FIOS On Demand for the first time a few days ago in more than a month, and the whole interface has changed.  Along with this change, it seems that almost no On Demand shows are free anymore, even more network shows.  Programs like The Walking Dead and The Americans on AMC and FX, channels in my package, all have a cost to watch On Demand.  Even most sitcoms on a channel like CBS are only free if you watch one of the last 3-5 episodes with older shows having a charge.  This seems like a clear case of double-dipping.  If I set my DVR I can watch these shows for free, but if I watch On Demand I have to pay yet again even though I'm already paying for them as part of my package.  I can't seem to get a straight answer on whether or not this is their new policy or a glitch.  I've been told both.  Is anyone else having to pay for shows that aren't on premium channels?

New vod menus put both pay episodes and free together.

Pay content is controlled by content provider.

My guess is that CBS is limiting free vod episodes to try and push people to their pay streaming service.

Verizon should put a stop to this preactice. I know for myself that I'm already paying a big price every month for this service. And part of that service I've always had access to network TV shows. I'm not going be paying for them now. nor will I subscribe to the providers streaming service. I suspect Verizon is going to lose a lot of customers. Maybe it's time to check out Comcast.

Please do check with someone using Comcast.  Most people who check find the same shows charged By Verizon and Comcast.  If its not than maybe we have something to ask Verizon to correct.  Yes they had made some mistakes in their On-demand offerings.

DITTO!  Highway robbery and Verizon is blaming the networks.

You can watch what you missed on their websites but this is not what we are paying for.

Regarding "you can watch the shows you missed on line"... not always.  I haven't tested this extensiveley but tonight, I went to BBC America to catch Series 3 Episode 1 because I missed it and it's blocked.  Why BBC won't allow you to see all of their series' episodes is beyond me.  It's almost as if they don't care either.  Why put a limitation on watching any episode of any series they are currently airing?  Thanks a lot BBC - I didn't even know that Broadchurch was renewed for a 3rd series so if I can't see episode 1, I won't be watching the rest of them either.

Hi Everyone,

i just switched from optimum last week. If Verizon is claiming it's the channels who are doing this, that is INCORRECT. Optimum DID NOT charge subscribers to watch new episodes and neither did the networks. If I had known about this, I NEVER would have switched. Also, you can only record 3 shows at once.

very frustrated that I signed up for this nonsense! Talk about a bait and switch!

To be clear, Verizon has grouped paid content with free content.

If you know someone who is still on Optimum, compare a VOD episode that is for a fee on Verizon and free on Optimum. Post the show and episode please.

As for recording, I assume you have Quantum?

It supports up to 6 tuners.

It depends on how many IPCs you ahve and if they are in use as to how many shows you can record at one time.

I have 3 IPCs. I can record from 2 -6 shows at one time depending on how many tuners are in use.
