On Demand charging for new episodes on Channels that I already subscribe to.

Ever since the new On Demand menu launched I have noitced a change in the pricing of On demand episodes on channels that I subribe to as part of my normal FIOS TV package. I first noticed this with a recent episode of Teen Wolf on MTV that I had started watching for Free two days prior then when I was switched over to the new On Demand menu that same episode had to be purchased for $1.99 for me to continue watching it. Next the same issue happened with the latest episode of the Vampire  Diaries on CW. Assuming this was a mistake I called customer service and was told that it was the Channel providers MTV and CW not Verizon that had made price change for the episodes but was also told that I could  watch these same episodes for free online. So I logged into Myverzion account online and and found that all the curent episodes were in fact free.  This makes no scense at all. Why am I being charged extra to watch content on my TV that is free online. This totally defeats the purposed of paying for cable. The fact that I have to pay extra to watch content on my TV that is now only available for free online is ridiculous.  Im convinced that this a mistake that started when the new On demand menu was released.  Also I have checked at a few friends and relatives houses over the holidays and was able the to watch the exact same content (current episodes) for free On Demand with Direct TV and Comcast.  So imagine tonight when I sat down to watch the latest epsode of Grimm On Demand on NBC with FIOS and found that I had to pay $1.99. I begrudgingly got up off my sofa logged into Myverzion account and found the very same episode is free to watch online. Please fix this mistake or I will be switiching to Direct TV ASAP.

Did you read my previous post?

It is the content providers that govern which episodes are free and which are for a fee.

People will only read what they want to read and will not get it in there head that VERIZON IS NOT DOING THIS THE CONTENT PROVIDERS ARE! My neighbor has Xfinity and friend of mine has Broadstripe BOTH are charging just like Verizon.

The people who STILL think its Verizon call the content providers and post your complaint.

Totally understand that it's not Verizon but our contracts are with and we pay Verizon.

Therefroe Verizon needs to negotiate better with the networks or owners as I was was told by a network that it's the owners.

Here's a big notice to the owners. I'm not paying twice and will simply drop shows that expect me to pay double to watch.

I think thats why Verizon said writing to the attorney genrrnal might work because it's not Verizon and the owners perhaps should not be allowed to do this.

But if the content providers are doing the same across all services, why do you blame Verizon for not negotiating well?

And under what grounds can the attorney general do anything?

Nothing in your contract guarantees access to all content.

It says there is on demand.

I believe some of this has to do with content providers monetizing everything they can.

They also are trying to reach out to those who have cut the cord and are paying for streaming services. Why are streaming services going to pay top dollar if people can get content free on demand? Or in the case of CBS, have their own pay streaming service.

We may not like it, but its not criminal.

And how many people are hitting the content providers on social media asking why they are charigng for their content?

If it's not illegal to charge someone twice for access to shows then I don't know what is.

They aren't only charging for past seasons they are charging for current season.

And the end result is that I'm just giving up shows I can't keep up with until I switch my services.

Nothing will make me pay twice.

I guess in the end everyone loses anand that includes the networks/shows etc.

We're just waiting until they hit Netflix now, even if it takes an extra 6 months or year. TV is just becoming more frustrating and less important because of crap like this!

We all have lives outside of TV, maybe you don't??? I do not have the time or psatience to sit here and call/email every network that produces a show I like. TV is just not that important, in fact, it's mostly crap anyway. Verizon is the agent between us and the providers, they are doing a lousy job getting the best deals for their customers. So is Comcast and any other cable or Dish network, lousy job! Stop scolding people who just want what we paid for in the first place!

Do you work for Verizon or just like to stick up for huge corporations who suck our pockets dry every chance they get? I don't care who's actually charging us, it's Verizon's job to negotiate the best deal they can for it's customers with the providers. My wife and I couldn't wait for Better Call Saul, but we intentionally missed a few so we could binge on it for an entire night, then I find out it's now two bucks an episode. Now we are waiting for season 3 to hit Netflix-  we won't pay it, period! And after this contract is up, we are seriously considering going basic cable and all else Netflix.

Just a customer like you.

Just stating that your blame may be misplaced.

Verizon (along with other companies) pass through the VOD content they receive.

Earlier in this thread, some have stated they check other providers and they see charges for similar episodes.

ANd yes, streaming servicces are cheaper. But like you stated, you have wait several months for it to be available. You also want to check to see what options AMC might have available for streaming as well.

You aren't really answering the question. Are you saying that "all" outside providers are all of a sudden charging for past season viewing of a channel we already subscribe to?

I'm giving up all shows that I can't keep up with. So if it is the networks or show owners charging they lose too, along with me.

And when I move I'll be looking into Hulu or whatever.

Done with this nonsense.

No. This vod update put episodes that are available for a fee together with those that are available for free.

so it appears to be they are now charging, but they are just more visible.

That being said, it is possible that some content providers are changing what content they are charging for.

Incorrect CRob

All episodes on STARZ, Syfy, etc were free. They did not charge until Verizon changed to this horrible new interface.

I know this to be fact because I don't have a lot of time and I watched a lot of older shows and full seasons for free.

Verizon should remember, 'if it's not broken, don't fix it'

Why are many on demand options no longer free?

What's this new charge I'm see on demand for certain episodes. I already pay for all the channels it's not good business to now start charging for certain episodes on demand.  I'll just go to comcast if this keeps occurring. It's crazy. How much more money can you get out of this situation?  It's unethical.

I have noticed a dramatic change in video on demand.  Everything that was previously free now has a $ next to it, indicating it will cost money--including HBO shows and I pay for HBO.  When I can play VOD, it comes in SDTV.  I pay for HDTV and HBO.  **bleep**?  I renewed based on the previouisly available items and this change happened at the exact time that I signed another two year contract.

I've been watching "Better Call Saul" and when I went to watch it last night. it wanted me to pay $1.99 to watch it. Never had to pay before. Why do I have to pay now?

There are several threads on thios.

AMC (in this instance) has passed along a fee to Verizon.

Most content providers (in my experience but it is limited) allow 3-4 of the latest episodes to be free. Anything after that, would be for a fee.

Some may be charging for the latest episode at first, but then offer it for free.

One of the things that is making this confusing is that last Verizon VOD release put the free episodes together with the pay ones. So it appears that Verizon started charging for episodes when in fact they were available for a fee all along, just in a different list.

And others have reported they see similar charges on other cable providers.

We used to be able to watch everything for free. For instance I watched series that had aired years before on STARZ.

Now we pay

and I won't be watching anything I have to pay extra for.

I hate the new interface. Having to pay for past episodes in on demand for channels that are in my package really stinks and they will never get a dime out of me that way. But I do enjoy the glitches and being able to watch episodes for channels that are not in my package. That's what they get for being greedy.
