Sept 2020 Fios DVR and Guide Update

This week Fios pushed out interface updates for their TV services. After nearly 3 hours in chats, I was finally told that there is no way to roll back updates once loaded and they base new update options based on posts in the forum. Below are my complaints that they will only fix with enough support on here, if you have the same issues, please mark the post.

1. They removed the chapter function for recorded programs on the dvr (the up arrow that would allow you to move to any 10 min marker in a program).

2. The new Now and Next function causes latency when switching channels. Even after setting it to 0 seconds.

3. They removed the ability to view a single channel lineup in the tv guide. In the past I would just hit guide a second time to see the next 5-10 shows on a single channel.

4. Finally, I just find the prettier guide view harder to actually read and process. Not sure if it is the number of channels,  dark screen, or just that it is too busy.  Turning off the background video helped a little, but not much.

You will see the above mentioned Fios TV interface changes roll out from 12/09 through 1/13.

Additional responses:

Coloring: Here is another way to navigate to channel groups that used to be colored:

The channel neighborhoods are still organized by the genres you're familiar with.  While in the main Guide, press the Guide button again to apply your filters and move over to the Jump To function.  Now you can jump your guide to specific channel neighborhoods.  If you have Fios TV One with a Voice Remote, while in the guide you can also say “Jump to <channel neighborhood>”.

Last Button: The button labeled "Last" on our remotes for 1100 and 4100's can be configured to operate in one of 2 ways. You can either jump back and forth between your last 2 watched programs, or you can have it bring up the "Last Watched Rail" which contains more of your most recently watched content, including VOD and DVR shows.

Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.

If the "Last Watch Rail" disappears, please use this workaround: Reboot the box or boxes on which the issue is seen to check if that fixes the problem. If it still appears bothersome or comes back, please disable the last watched rail.  Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.

We are aware of the Last Watched Rail issue reported in this Community and we will have a fix in place with the next release.

Guide Banner: You can disable the Guide Ad banner setting via the following:

Main Menu>>settings>>Notification>Guide Banners->Disable

Lagging / Slowness / Sluggishness:

If you are still experiencing lagging, slowness or sluggishness when interacting with the set top box after the latest update (APR 7.8), please elaborate on which specific functionality is exhibiting this behavior (ex. Navigating Menu/Guide/On Demand, channel surfing, DVR etc.)?

Please feel free to provide any additional details which will be useful and assist the development team as they further investigate.

As always, we greatly appreciate and value your feedback.

Thank you.

Worst "Upgrade" Ever!

All these comments are spot on. Everything that was changed is for the worse.

   The monochrome is nearly unreadable.

The tiny logo pics are a waste of space.

   Lag is brutal.

One thing I didn't see mentioned is while watching a show, you now need to press 'Info' 3 x to get to the full info page and then press 'Exit' 2x just to get out of it.

Why wouldnt they make a new guide as a choice till the bugs are gone!!!!

The update has made watching TV and especially DVR playback very frustrating (laggy response, unreadable guide, chaptering and skip functions useless).  I have been contemplating cutting the cord, but this is making my decision to go all Roku very easy and it will save $$$.

Please bring back the old guide or at least fix this new one.

I agree with all the complaints previously listed.

There are some nice new features but I agree some key things are missing:

1. THE ABILITY TO VIEW THE GUIDE AND SEE THE SHOW YOU'RE VIEWING IN A SMALLER WINDOW...!!!

2. Chaptering on recorded shows and the ability to skip 10min ahead and backward

3. Single channel line up. Viewing everything upcoming for 6-8 hours from 1 channel on one page without having to scroll is very helpful.

These are features I use or used daily and would love to have back...

- The text is way too small and there are too many lines. For people who have trouble seeing, shouldn’t there be a requirement to have an option to increase text size? I explored the Accessibility settings and there is nothing.

- Bring back the color coding.

- The pictures of the currently playing tv shows on each line of the guide screen are also useless at such a small scale.

- The pop up info that shows on the bottom of the screen after tuning to a new station makes it very difficult to tell what station you are on.

- Switching between Favorites 1 and 2 requires you to uncheck one of them or else both sets of favorites display. That makes no sense.

Just Horrible Now you can't tell what is a movie channel or a sports channel. I guess they had a bunch of people who cant see. I just need to know is the team who created this that stupid? Unfortunately nothing will change because its verizion and they do what they want with no ramifications. We Are All screwed unless you switch to another provider.

No one seems to be happy with this update. I wonder who designed it and who approved it. You would think not by people who use it. It’s slower, has more steps, more frustrating, and has deleted useful functions. For the amount of money people pay for this service, you expect improved service not a crippling “update,”

Is there really not a way to see the network names in this new guide? All I see is that "TV" icon on every channel, which is not at all helpful. This seems like such a basic feature of a channel guide to list the network names. It would be great to have an option to downgrade to the former guide until this new guide is fixed.

My guide didn't have it initially but now it does. I think some features are rolling out or updating over time. I'm still not finding much I like about it and really upset about losing DVR chaptering. Hoping that comes they later. I would also have liked an option to skip or rewind faster on live TV. 8X is not enough

I really don't like this new guide. The fact that you cant go back to the old format is a **bleep** on you. I hate the the coloring for types of programs are gone I gate the the chattering is gone. Pretty messed up the the customer is being ignored

The new update is horrible.  You can’t see the channel numbers in either the guide or the info. The font is too small with those of us with vision issues and I can’t seem to get it to display larger.  I hate the new guide.  I was able to quickly differentiate the different types of shows when they were color coded(sports.kids, movies, etc) but now everything looks black and white and it is difficult to see what’s in the guide.  I hope all this complaining on the forums are being read and version makes changes because this is definitely something I will switch companies for.

The delay/sluggishness in the remote is beyond frustrating. Please fix this.

Agree!!  This is the WORST update to date!!!  In general, it is harder to read and we've lost the ability to view the current program in the corner while scrolling through the guide to see what's on.

The new UNGUIDED FIOS GUIDE is a spectacular disaster. What a disappointment! The channel numbers and logo's are hardly distinguishable on my 75" Sony. You need binoculars to view them on my 32" bedroom TV's. Why have logo's taking up space anyway? Live viewing of what your presently watching is gone only to have the sound remain. Why? Color coding was how I searched, now you have to go line by line. Movies, sports, news, variety all mixed together, so as you maneuver it takes forever to find something. This does not include the lag time that I'm experiencing with the remote. It's unlikely, but if anyone with some authority takes note of all these complaints PLEASE let's go back to the old guide. Here's an idea, get advice from your customers of what they like and don't like when making changes like this. Here's what I like about the new guide. NOTHING!

Include me on the “Can’t Stand FIOS guide!”

This makes my old  Sega video game look new.

What the heck! Higher prices, lousy service and now this slow useless guide.  Any suggestions for a better provider?

Who is the **bleep** that changed the guide. The new guide is nothing shy of pathetic!!!!!   You can’t see the channel numbers nor can you see the channel symbols. You also can’t change the info bar timeout anymore.  I’m contemplating canceling Fios. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Worst update. I hate the look of the guide, the lack of info when info is pressed, lack of coloring to distinguish type of show, and that you can't jump forward 10 minutes. Also, can't hit C to skip to HD.  HORRIBLE!! Please change back!
