This week Fios pushed out interface updates for their TV services. After nearly 3 hours in chats, I was finally told that there is no way to roll back updates once loaded and they base new update options based on posts in the forum. Below are my complaints that they will only fix with enough support on here, if you have the same issues, please mark the post.
1. They removed the chapter function for recorded programs on the dvr (the up arrow that would allow you to move to any 10 min marker in a program).
2. The new Now and Next function causes latency when switching channels. Even after setting it to 0 seconds.
3. They removed the ability to view a single channel lineup in the tv guide. In the past I would just hit guide a second time to see the next 5-10 shows on a single channel.
4. Finally, I just find the prettier guide view harder to actually read and process. Not sure if it is the number of channels, dark screen, or just that it is too busy. Turning off the background video helped a little, but not much.

Please disregard that this topic has been marked as solved. This post was marked as the solution in order to float it to the beginning of this thread for increased visibility.
Dear Verizon Customers,
Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. We are listening to you and based on your feedback, we have made SOME additional changes to the new Fios TV Interface with the APR 7.8 update. Here are the interface updates:
- User Interface Improvements
- Guide legibility improvements
- Free To Me filter renamed to Subscribed
- Episode font size updated to fit more characters
- 2 ½ hour guide skipping with prev/next buttons
- Video On Demand updates
- Fixes/Improvements
You will see the above mentioned Fios TV interface changes roll out from 12/09 through 1/13.
Additional responses:
Coloring: Here is another way to navigate to channel groups that used to be colored:
The channel neighborhoods are still organized by the genres you're familiar with. While in the main Guide, press the Guide button again to apply your filters and move over to the Jump To function. Now you can jump your guide to specific channel neighborhoods. If you have Fios TV One with a Voice Remote, while in the guide you can also say “Jump to <channel neighborhood>”.
Last Button: The button labeled "Last" on our remotes for 1100 and 4100's can be configured to operate in one of 2 ways. You can either jump back and forth between your last 2 watched programs, or you can have it bring up the "Last Watched Rail" which contains more of your most recently watched content, including VOD and DVR shows.
Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.
If the "Last Watch Rail" disappears, please use this workaround: Reboot the box or boxes on which the issue is seen to check if that fixes the problem. If it still appears bothersome or comes back, please disable the last watched rail. Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.
We are aware of the Last Watched Rail issue reported in this Community and we will have a fix in place with the next release.
Guide Banner: You can disable the Guide Ad banner setting via the following:
Main Menu>>settings>>Notification>Guide Banners->Disable
Lagging / Slowness / Sluggishness:
If you are still experiencing lagging, slowness or sluggishness when interacting with the set top box after the latest update (APR 7.8), please elaborate on which specific functionality is exhibiting this behavior (ex. Navigating Menu/Guide/On Demand, channel surfing, DVR etc.)?
Please feel free to provide any additional details which will be useful and assist the development team as they further investigate.
As always, we greatly appreciate and value your feedback.
Thank you.

There should be an option to not have the new version!! It is horrible, I don’t know who it was tested on, but I cannot believe anyone liked it.

Seriously you actually found someone who likes the new glide? I HATE IT. PERIOD. Its slower, the white letters on black are very hard to look at, all the stupid icons that slowly load on the left side are useless, the loss of the colors (like green for sports) is a really bad idea- I could go on and on. The people who you asked must be the same people that New Coke was good.
PLEASE BRING BACK THE OLD SCHEME!!!!!!

Calling Verizon's response a "solution" is ridiculous! How could you do away with chapters and call this an improvement? How could you do away with color-coding the guide and call it an improvement? The changes are a big step backwards!

Really missing the color coded guide. It used to be so quick and easy to browse through for a movie (red) or sporting event (green). Now it just all blends together on the black screen.

Fire your research team. This is unforgivably horrible, from someone building consumer interfaces and apps for decades.

Ironic hypocrisy! Spend time chatting or talking to "Customer Service" and they want you fill out a questionnaire so they can gather "satisfaction" and "performance" metrics (and fire the sub-contractor in India and hire somebody in Thailand? WaRiRe.)
Meanwhile they roll out this piece of carp - so how are those developers doing? Probably used to be CSRs! This is their revenge!
We are living real-life friction; the customer-end of a Dilbert-like cartoon; the victims who never make it onto the inked illustrations! Hey, Scott Adams, run a series about the horrendous guide/remote control at a company named NOZIREV. Have WYLAL be the lead developer... Make the product line building industrial robots! Other robots are the testing / focus group! The sky's the limit!
Think about it for a moment: flight control and air traffic control simulators, tower cranes with their training simulators; mining machine excavators and trucks with their training simulators. How long would any of these remain in business if their interfaces were jerked around like VZ does to their customers? Add to the mix: Global scale open source developments like VLC and Handbrake? Or one man shop products like SIW or XXCOPY? "Sorry boss, I won't drive that $5M Cat 797 off the road again, but somebody changed the colors and fonts and froze the PIP display."

What arrogance to mark the complaints here as SOLVED!
What was the solution? "Just get over it"?
Verizon, you broke your commitment to your customers. My contract is up. I've been a loyal customer of ALL your services for decades but this arrogance is just too much. I'll be looking elsewhere for a TV provider and YES, Phone and Internet too. Why would ANYONE want to be treated this badly and have to pay hundreds of dollars monthly for it!

The new channel guide is frustrating and awkward. I don’t know whether you tested this on people who actually had an IQ above peanut butter. Anyone who thinks this is an improvement is sadly mistaken. Very disappointing effort from Verizon. I think Comcast would have a better guide and I feelLike switching services if this guy is not fixed or even returned to the earlier format.

I still have to get used to the upgrade, but if program chaptering was indeed removed that is beyond ridiculous. I utilize it frequently for DVR’d shows and from what I’ve read on these forums, many other customers do as well. I don’t know how testing could have missed this...is there a new feature that replicates this?

That’s not a solution. No separation between movies, news, sports. What were you thinking and who no option to choose???

I couldn’t agreee more. This new guide is simply awful. Hard to read and the interface is lagging and terrible. I’m so close to
switching providers and the service has become almost unusable

I can't even read the channel names on the left for most channels , it is way to small. Did you only review the guide with people under 30. This is descriminatory for anyone who as reached middle age and doesn't have the site of a 20 something.
Also, if i want to see what's on at 10 minutes before the program ends, the name to the far left has shrunk so far in size that with the picture next to it (which is also to small to read) is just a few letter so i can't tell what it is.
You must go back to two guides as you had before so different options are available to people. I'll give it a month and see if you do anything. Then I'm going to switch providers since i can't read your guide.

Verizon response is NOT a solution.
New guide and overall functionality is NOT an upgrade. Agree with all others. Also, without rewinding, cannot tell how much time is remaining on live or recorded show; used to be able to see remaining time by just pressing the "info" button. Don't like the "snap shot" that shows for each channel you land on while scrolling through the guide.
Please FIX these issues.

Good evening, Nilsa
"Our release products go through testing sessions with customers just like you before the products are launched."...with all due respect, it's impossible for me to believe that even one customer found the DVR/Guide updates to be even a nominal improvement over the prior functions/content.
For all of the issues raised in regard to this subject, please give customers the option of restoring the prior DVR/Guide functionality if they so desire.
Thank you for your consideration.

This guide update was terrible. What was wrong with the prior layout. The new guide is so busy and hard to read. Terrible. I wish there was a way to go back to the old layout.

There are so many people who hate this update. Give us our old guide back. Might be time for an email to the CEO. This update was garbage
