This week Fios pushed out interface updates for their TV services. After nearly 3 hours in chats, I was finally told that there is no way to roll back updates once loaded and they base new update options based on posts in the forum. Below are my complaints that they will only fix with enough support on here, if you have the same issues, please mark the post.
1. They removed the chapter function for recorded programs on the dvr (the up arrow that would allow you to move to any 10 min marker in a program).
2. The new Now and Next function causes latency when switching channels. Even after setting it to 0 seconds.
3. They removed the ability to view a single channel lineup in the tv guide. In the past I would just hit guide a second time to see the next 5-10 shows on a single channel.
4. Finally, I just find the prettier guide view harder to actually read and process. Not sure if it is the number of channels, dark screen, or just that it is too busy. Turning off the background video helped a little, but not much.

Please disregard that this topic has been marked as solved. This post was marked as the solution in order to float it to the beginning of this thread for increased visibility.
Dear Verizon Customers,
Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. We are listening to you and based on your feedback, we have made SOME additional changes to the new Fios TV Interface with the APR 7.8 update. Here are the interface updates:
- User Interface Improvements
- Guide legibility improvements
- Free To Me filter renamed to Subscribed
- Episode font size updated to fit more characters
- 2 ½ hour guide skipping with prev/next buttons
- Video On Demand updates
- Fixes/Improvements
You will see the above mentioned Fios TV interface changes roll out from 12/09 through 1/13.
Additional responses:
Coloring: Here is another way to navigate to channel groups that used to be colored:
The channel neighborhoods are still organized by the genres you're familiar with. While in the main Guide, press the Guide button again to apply your filters and move over to the Jump To function. Now you can jump your guide to specific channel neighborhoods. If you have Fios TV One with a Voice Remote, while in the guide you can also say “Jump to <channel neighborhood>”.
Last Button: The button labeled "Last" on our remotes for 1100 and 4100's can be configured to operate in one of 2 ways. You can either jump back and forth between your last 2 watched programs, or you can have it bring up the "Last Watched Rail" which contains more of your most recently watched content, including VOD and DVR shows.
Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.
If the "Last Watch Rail" disappears, please use this workaround: Reboot the box or boxes on which the issue is seen to check if that fixes the problem. If it still appears bothersome or comes back, please disable the last watched rail. Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.
We are aware of the Last Watched Rail issue reported in this Community and we will have a fix in place with the next release.
Guide Banner: You can disable the Guide Ad banner setting via the following:
Main Menu>>settings>>Notification>Guide Banners->Disable
Lagging / Slowness / Sluggishness:
If you are still experiencing lagging, slowness or sluggishness when interacting with the set top box after the latest update (APR 7.8), please elaborate on which specific functionality is exhibiting this behavior (ex. Navigating Menu/Guide/On Demand, channel surfing, DVR etc.)?
Please feel free to provide any additional details which will be useful and assist the development team as they further investigate.
As always, we greatly appreciate and value your feedback.
Thank you.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! This is a terrible "Update" or "upgrade". It's enough to make me switch back to Comcast. You can go back. It just takes a willingness to do so.

What a joke. Solved? Not. The Guide is awful but slowing down response time from the remotes is ridiculous!!!

...But, did this really go through testing? Because I’ve not seen and/or heard a single positive response to this update from anyone...
The color coding was by far the best feature of this system and anyone who actually used the guide with some regularity would tell you that.

Please fix the Guide, it is Awful! Can’t view channel icons. I guess I’m suppose to just remember what channel is associated with 200+ channel numbers?! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Netflix is a better option.

"We read your comment and (maybe) told people" isn't a solution and shouldn't be marked as such. If a real UI expert was actually used in the development of the 'upgrades' then they should be fired. This looks like some developers got together and decided it should look like what they want without interacting with customers. Sadly this is not uncommon. I refuse to believe this was user tested on a scale that would get real feedback.
Problems that I've identified:
Color coding is gone (eg sports green, movies red, etc)
The channel numbers are hard to see. My mother has so get up from the couch to read them.
The upper left shows a random image of the show instead of what we are watching.
Removing the skipping chapters without giving more than 8x fast forward
Slower scrolling
Laggy interface (not as terrible as the on demand interface but getting that way)
Filters aren't sticky... Don't stay after setting them. I have no desire to always recheck 'only HD' everytime I turn on the box
Absolutely zero ability to do useful customization.
This upgrade just removed *all* of the useful features. This is not a much better interface than the guide channel that continuously scrolls through the channels.

What focus group? Who was in that focus group? Were they on drugs?
This user interface is very UNFRIENDLY.
It's 2020 Verizon. At least provide an option for the users to adjust the settings.
If you care about the subscribers do a survey and show use how many people actually like the new interface.

I too do not like the new guide, which has many drawbacks in my opinion. But the main one is the removal of the color-coded channels that indicated movies, sports, etc, and made the guide so much easier to read and navigate. PLEASE BRING BACK THE COLOR CODES!

The new guide is UNUSABLE!!! The network designations all say TV. If improvements aren't made quickly so it becomes useable, we'll make improvements by changing service providers.

I agree with everyone about the new guide being a real step backwards. Even Direct TV had a better guide years ago,
In addition, please go back to where pressing the "Last" button actually took one back to the last channel instead of another menu with useless selections.
Direct TV also had a much. much better way of scheduling (reminders) future programs. Take a look!

If that is the case, those people must not be very technical or discerning. The software update has caused your system to function more slowly, the guide is more difficult to look through, and real, positive new features are just not there. For instance, how about basic stuff such as 16x FF, or some built-in intelligence that knows when you schedule a show to record at a certain time and it starts due to a delay for whatever reason, that your system can detect that and modify the start/end times? Basic take-away is that the new Guide is not an improvement and more preferences for modifying the Guide should be offered. And get the delays worked out of your menu-ing system!!

This new guide is difficult to read and almost impossible on a small TV. Is there a way to get rid of the top info bar and the bottom ad bar which are taking up half the screen space and enlarge the channel guide part to make it more readable? Maybe add that option as well as bringing back the color coding? Maybe also add an option to invert the guide to black on white rather than white on black. As a whole it is too dark and cluttered right now.

This update is horrible. The pop up when you click the 30 second skip is horrendous.
Why would I want the screen covered when I click the skip button?

The new format sucks. Going between two football games I now have to press exit twice and the latency is major issue. On my 85” screen I can barely read the guide. Also, not much info on how to set settings. Gonna seriously look into Comcast. Just don’t understand what Verizon was thinking.

Rollback to the previous release or I'll seriously consider rolling my business to one of your competitors. This new interface is garbage! If I wanted to learn a new interface I would've switched to another provider. Are you aware of the latency issues this new user interface is causing; that has been addressed by others on this thread? Fix this nonsense-or-here's a thought, stop billing us for this test case until you figure it out!
I had considered leaving Fios a year ago but didn't feel like comparing against other provider's plans. However, perhaps the time has come for me to "feel like" making a comparison. FIX IT!

Please let us know when you will send an additional update. Hoping it is before we cancel service. Guide is hard on eyes and difficult to use. You have to use filters to see upcoming showings for recordings, which is a downgrade. It was so nice also having the cc as a button on the remote.

This is no solution! I’m at the end of my FiOS obligation, and unless this changes I’ll be gone.
not only is the new guide an abomination, the software update has lobotomized the remote. The new guide provides zero channel information. Worst of all, there is ZERO information available through Verizon about how to fix these issues. And I’m clearly not the only one with issues.
fix this NOW, or Verizon’s changes will be talked about for years about how to destroy a good product and brand for no reason other than institutional arrogance. Like New Coke.

I don't mind the extra graphics in the new 2020 Guide update, what bothers me is it is soooooooo slow. It takes forever to react. Push the exit button and wait and wait.
Why is this high speed Fios not extended to the New Guide, Why is it so painfully slow?

I am not sure how the Verizon post claiming they do testing was marked as a solution, but it is not one. I want to know when they will revert back to the previously functioning software or release updates that fix the latency, guide, and dvr issues. Since this problem started, I have accelerated my dvr watching. I have gone from 80+% to 40%. If there is not a real solution by the time I get to zero, I am planning to call up Comcast Xfinity.

Just give us an option to roll it back and use old one. It is silly if you force customers to change providers because of this.

I completely agree that the guide update is horrible. I can not read most of the information. White letters on a lack background is very hard on my eyes.

VZ needs to fix this now... by making the new guide optional (roll it back?) sorta like the recent crappy FB "update"
i.e.
O Yes O No
