This week Fios pushed out interface updates for their TV services. After nearly 3 hours in chats, I was finally told that there is no way to roll back updates once loaded and they base new update options based on posts in the forum. Below are my complaints that they will only fix with enough support on here, if you have the same issues, please mark the post.
1. They removed the chapter function for recorded programs on the dvr (the up arrow that would allow you to move to any 10 min marker in a program).
2. The new Now and Next function causes latency when switching channels. Even after setting it to 0 seconds.
3. They removed the ability to view a single channel lineup in the tv guide. In the past I would just hit guide a second time to see the next 5-10 shows on a single channel.
4. Finally, I just find the prettier guide view harder to actually read and process. Not sure if it is the number of channels, dark screen, or just that it is too busy. Turning off the background video helped a little, but not much.

Please disregard that this topic has been marked as solved. This post was marked as the solution in order to float it to the beginning of this thread for increased visibility.
Dear Verizon Customers,
Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. We are listening to you and based on your feedback, we have made SOME additional changes to the new Fios TV Interface with the APR 7.8 update. Here are the interface updates:
- User Interface Improvements
- Guide legibility improvements
- Free To Me filter renamed to Subscribed
- Episode font size updated to fit more characters
- 2 ½ hour guide skipping with prev/next buttons
- Video On Demand updates
- Fixes/Improvements
You will see the above mentioned Fios TV interface changes roll out from 12/09 through 1/13.
Additional responses:
Coloring: Here is another way to navigate to channel groups that used to be colored:
The channel neighborhoods are still organized by the genres you're familiar with. While in the main Guide, press the Guide button again to apply your filters and move over to the Jump To function. Now you can jump your guide to specific channel neighborhoods. If you have Fios TV One with a Voice Remote, while in the guide you can also say “Jump to <channel neighborhood>”.
Last Button: The button labeled "Last" on our remotes for 1100 and 4100's can be configured to operate in one of 2 ways. You can either jump back and forth between your last 2 watched programs, or you can have it bring up the "Last Watched Rail" which contains more of your most recently watched content, including VOD and DVR shows.
Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.
If the "Last Watch Rail" disappears, please use this workaround: Reboot the box or boxes on which the issue is seen to check if that fixes the problem. If it still appears bothersome or comes back, please disable the last watched rail. Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.
We are aware of the Last Watched Rail issue reported in this Community and we will have a fix in place with the next release.
Guide Banner: You can disable the Guide Ad banner setting via the following:
Main Menu>>settings>>Notification>Guide Banners->Disable
Lagging / Slowness / Sluggishness:
If you are still experiencing lagging, slowness or sluggishness when interacting with the set top box after the latest update (APR 7.8), please elaborate on which specific functionality is exhibiting this behavior (ex. Navigating Menu/Guide/On Demand, channel surfing, DVR etc.)?
Please feel free to provide any additional details which will be useful and assist the development team as they further investigate.
As always, we greatly appreciate and value your feedback.
Thank you.

Appreciate that picture-in-picture is back on the guide, but please restore the ability to change the picture size. I prefer a larger picture and a smaller guide. Please restore color coding as well.

Got the update that put the PiP in the guide back. If they can bring back the color-coding in the guide, I’d be happy.
Another feature I really miss is being able to hit fwd and reverse skip in the guide to scroll to the next time block. These buttons do nothing now. I can still scroll by day with fast fwd and rewind buttons but no way to go two hours at a time like you could before. You have to go show by show with the D-pad.

I created an account on this forum just so I could say how horrible the new TV guide and system is. The guide is so hard to read with the black on white. There are so many graphics -- the image of the channel logo, then the image of the show logo, then the show name. Why do we need all these teeny tiny images? We can't even see them, they're just clutter. Then you got rid of the color coding for the show types, which makes it harder to scroll through. The process of changing the channel take so much longer. This "now and next" is incredibly stupid. I just went through the guide, I know what is on "now and next." Why would I want this on the bottom third of my screen blocking view of the show for 8 seconds. I figured out how to get rid of it, but it was a hassle. Same for the "last" button. You made a one-step switch take 3 steps! Then you got rid of the picture-in-picture in the guide. WHY????? I want to see another picture of the shows I'm scrolling through? NO, I want to see the show I'm watching!
I read that you get your ideas for changes from the forum, so here is my idea. Go back to the previous guide. The new one is incredibly hard to read and is horrible. Instead of spending my money coming up with needless changes, just stop raising my prices and stop changing the guide!

Newest update fixes some problems of the previous disaster. However, many channel logos are still unreadable on a 65” screen - specifically, NFL network (I know the channel number so know which it is), the ESPN networks (can’t distinguish among them), some network on my channel 590 - can’t read it to know what it is, channel 594, 579, 529, 596 and many more. Maybe we’re not supposed to decide what to watch based on the network . . .?
if we had color coding, we could at least determine the type of show. And it’s still slow. If they’d just bring back what we had, all these issues would be solved. Why they believe that fixing some of them, not all, constitutes a solution is a mystery to me.

"However, many channel logos are still unreadable on a 65” screen"
At least you have logos. I got the 7.5 update yesterday and all the channels on the guide still show the logo as "TV". 100% useless.

Horrible. Will seriously consider alternative service. I see not a single benefit in the update. Nothing but poor latency and terrible graphics. Fios, What was your goal in this stupid update?? I would fire your staff that was responsible for this.

I, too, registered solely to post my opinion of this worthless update (sic).
My son dumped Verizon cable and went with all internet. Verizon will now force me to take this route.

One small step by Fios, but one great leap is still necessary! The latency issue is driving us nuts. The missing colors is simply inexcusable! I remember when the old guide first came out, the colors were very muted and difficult to pick out when scanning channels and they fixed it! Now, fix it again! We also had channel entry latency issues before and they fixed that...fix it again! Does VZ even care any more? My $300++ per month bill paid for this horrible customer abuse!

Tonight new update left me unable to access the channel guide at all. A 10- minute call to Verizon took care of it. But now it is SO SLOW. Took me literally 5 seconds for the guide to come up after call to Verizon. I hate it. More every day.

It's seems like Caller ID stopped working on the IPC1100 STB. Error Message started when Sept Update downloaded. I want Caller ID back on ALL my STB's. Is that TOO MUCH to ask for hundreds of $ a month? Keep patching Verizon.... or you could just roll back to previous version that ACTUALLY WORKED!

I just want my color coding back. I can’t count how many times I’ve just flipped through the channels looking for a movie to watch. So, I look for red. No, maybe I wanna see what football games are on. I look for green. I don’t think they realize how helpful the color coding was.
Now I have to stare at every single screen and read every show name to find what I want. I get that they might be taking the colors away to make the guide more 508 compliant. But, how about an option to turn it back on, then? Not to mention, this guide update reset all of my personal settings. Like 30-second skip turned back to 10 seconds. It erased my favorites, too. Also turned off caller ID on the screen, turned the dumb last channel rail on, etc. It’s like a brand new box. Annoying.
I just don’t understand why they would mess with something that actually worked well.

Agree. New guide is harder to read. To much graphics and can’t see the name of the current show.
I miss being able to quickly scroll and look for red entries for movies. Where’s the color coding for news/sports/ movies?
the graphic of each show in the guide is a waste of space!

This updated guide is ridiculous. The stupid graphic for each show is unnecessary and takes up space of current show name if it’s well into the time slot.
I don’t want to jump to a neighborhood to see movies. There are movies on in many different channel groupings. Make shows and movies color coded again. Much easier to see at a glance
there’s also some new lags when using last and info buttons. you now have to push info button 3x to see full show description.
these updates are really not very useful. Bring back the previous guide.

Where is the favorites button? I have the voice activated remote and I have to press guide twice, then move right, then move back down to the guide to just see the favorite channels. I'm not liking this new format.

The last watch rail has disappeared again. On the 28th it was there in am gone in evening .. now just gone. You need to fix it as I am tired of my husband asking where it is.

I thought I was the only one that lost the last watched rail. Gone. It just says "Nothing here". If I turn off the rail, it goes to last watched. Helpful, but not what was there before. Verizon, you need to test the things you release to the public.
