Sept 2020 Fios DVR and Guide Update

This week Fios pushed out interface updates for their TV services. After nearly 3 hours in chats, I was finally told that there is no way to roll back updates once loaded and they base new update options based on posts in the forum. Below are my complaints that they will only fix with enough support on here, if you have the same issues, please mark the post.

1. They removed the chapter function for recorded programs on the dvr (the up arrow that would allow you to move to any 10 min marker in a program).

2. The new Now and Next function causes latency when switching channels. Even after setting it to 0 seconds.

3. They removed the ability to view a single channel lineup in the tv guide. In the past I would just hit guide a second time to see the next 5-10 shows on a single channel.

4. Finally, I just find the prettier guide view harder to actually read and process. Not sure if it is the number of channels,  dark screen, or just that it is too busy.  Turning off the background video helped a little, but not much.

You will see the above mentioned Fios TV interface changes roll out from 12/09 through 1/13.

Additional responses:

Coloring: Here is another way to navigate to channel groups that used to be colored:

The channel neighborhoods are still organized by the genres you're familiar with.  While in the main Guide, press the Guide button again to apply your filters and move over to the Jump To function.  Now you can jump your guide to specific channel neighborhoods.  If you have Fios TV One with a Voice Remote, while in the guide you can also say “Jump to <channel neighborhood>”.

Last Button: The button labeled "Last" on our remotes for 1100 and 4100's can be configured to operate in one of 2 ways. You can either jump back and forth between your last 2 watched programs, or you can have it bring up the "Last Watched Rail" which contains more of your most recently watched content, including VOD and DVR shows.

Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.

If the "Last Watch Rail" disappears, please use this workaround: Reboot the box or boxes on which the issue is seen to check if that fixes the problem. If it still appears bothersome or comes back, please disable the last watched rail.  Access Menu>Settings>System>Television>Last Watched Rail to enable and disable the Last Watched Rail.

We are aware of the Last Watched Rail issue reported in this Community and we will have a fix in place with the next release.

Guide Banner: You can disable the Guide Ad banner setting via the following:

Main Menu>>settings>>Notification>Guide Banners->Disable

Lagging / Slowness / Sluggishness:

If you are still experiencing lagging, slowness or sluggishness when interacting with the set top box after the latest update (APR 7.8), please elaborate on which specific functionality is exhibiting this behavior (ex. Navigating Menu/Guide/On Demand, channel surfing, DVR etc.)?

Please feel free to provide any additional details which will be useful and assist the development team as they further investigate.

As always, we greatly appreciate and value your feedback.

Thank you.

Any update to the problem reported 50 pages ago of scrolling through the guide, pressing the INFO button on a show to see program details and then having no way to go back to the guide AT THE SPOT YOU WERE IN when the INFO button was pressed?  Every time the INFO button is pressed and exited, it takes you back to the current show being watched in the GUIDE. And you have to scroll forward AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN from the beginning (current show) EVERY time you press the INFO button. This did NOT work that way in the old guide. Regressive BUG.

Try using the Prev button to the left of the DVR button on your remote.

Update to losing place in Guide while scrolling and pressing INFO button:

If you have a FIOS TV One remote, pressing the <- button (next to the blue microphone button) will return you to the place in the guide you were at before the INFO button was pressed. Credit bfinacchio who suggested prev button, which works for the old remote.

please bring back the old features! The new ui is more like cablevision and harder to use and I am now looking into other live tv options

Re: Lagging / Slowness / Sluggishness:

Guide is very slow to respond.  Typically have to hit a button multiple times on the remote to get the Fios box to respond.  Even with a direct line of sight to the box.  Happens with every remote and box.

Thank you for the solutions but this guide is still very hard on the eyes.  It appears blurry and gives me headaches. I think you all have had enough complaints about how hard it is to read that you should be providing another option. The dark background and white writing is awful.

Hi

When will you remove the program info when using quick rewind or FF?

Also, the same for DVR.

It is killing a great feature for sports but now you have to go even further to watch as the banner is there.  We know what we are watching live or on DVR and the info banner is more of a distraction then help.

One more item, when scrolling though lineup using the down arrow and not the guide, previously you could put in a channel number and it would jump to give you info-now it tunes that channel when you just want a preview of what's on your next up

Thanks for attention to this

Every aspect of the update is SLOW and horrible. Clearly testing was not done on this. I hate it. It takes 10 mins to change a channel and even longer to go back to the last channel watched. Take us back to the time before this awful update!

Do you have a timeline for the next release (after 7.5)?

It's been released in Western PA.  It really didn't do much of anything that I can tell.  Still slower than molasses in January and still horrible to read the guide.  If something improved it's buried.

I've pretty much have given up on the guide ever being functional again.

Hello!  I am still experiencing lagginess/slowness for pretty much everything related to the onscreen guide -- changing channels, surfing channels, last channel function, On-Demand, etc.

The only thing that works with no issue is the volume button.

Thanks,
Reynold

Fear not, you are not alone. Maybe management is planning a Christmas present for suscribers.

I need to check mine. Last update for Southeastern PA is 7.5. But you say it still is awful.

When using the remote, the response time is very slow and sluggish when (Surfing channels, inputting a channel (it will not add or skip channel digits), pressing the power on/off button, pressing the guide/options/info/exit buttons, and switching Favorites! Also, when viewing a DVR show the rewind and forward buttons take forever to perform their tasks. All these functions exhibit a very noticable delay that is extremely annoying. I checked to see what release I had and it is (APR-7.5). Is there another download version that fixes these functions???

Unfortunately you can't manually download the updates. They are pushed to the boxes based on location. Eventually everyone winds up on the same APR, but it takes time. Also if there are new bugs, they may not continue the push until they are fixed.
