Newly installed VMS fan runs constantly. Is there a solution? Is there a heat problem?

Which version of the VMS do you have? 1100, 4100 or the new stream boxes? In any case the fan noise shouldn't be loud enough to be heard unless you have your ear very close to the box. It could also be coming from the HDD inside the box. It may be defective, I'd ask for a replacement.
FYI it's a VMS4100. The behavior is intermittent but almost always happening when I come downstairs. Listening more closely i think it is the disk spinning. I don't have any recording scheduled so I agree it's probably defective.
