My tripple plays with two years contract will expire in about a month or so. I'm on the fence about cancel Verizon FIOS or just sign up for double plays with internet and FIOS Local TV services only. Since my TV (Sony KDL 52W5100) has QAM tuner built-in already, can I just connect the coax cable directly into TV without the need of renting the set-top box or digital tuner ? Also, will I get HD for local channels if I hook it up directly ?
Thanks,

You get the exact same local channels.
You just don't get anything else.

Yes you should.
You can actually do it now as a test.

I already tested it and verifed that I can hook up directly without set-top box or digital card. However, I stil have tripple plays with preferred HD, so I'm not sure if I still get the same feed after switching to local channels service only . And are they in HD ?
Thanks
