I have not updated my package or anything, we have had this package for years. It seems like everyday I find channels I had no issues watching 3 months ago all require subscriptions now.
DYI
BBC America
Pure Country
GAC Country
+ More Im sure
is it normal to just drop channels on customers and offer no componsation for doing so?

Its in the contract that they can add or delete channels from packages without changing your rate.
Pretty standard for most cable companies.

All of those channels being removed from a package doesn't sound typical even with older ones. Have you tried rebooting your box to make sure there wasn't simply a glitch?
What channel package do you have?

Sincara, I checked and they were all moved up to extreme and Ultimate at least according to the channel guide for my area. see
http://www.verizon.com/home/widget/ChannelLineUpWidgetServlet?zipcode for your area
Since I have always stuck with Ultimate, I never had noticed the changes.
I would guess they are reshuffling anything they can to to the higher packages. Something they are certainly allowed to do.

Nothing has ever changed for those channels that were listed in my area at least since I've had Fios in 2009. They were always part of Extreme and Ultimate. Never anything below that.

BBC America was moved at least twice. Added and then removed from PRIME/Preferred.
