Verizon RIPOFF on redzone

Can you believe verizon is charging $50 fee for the nfl redzone channel? That comes out to $12.50 a month for the 4 months of football season. The redzone channel is only on air on sunday 1pm-8pm (or less if the last afternoon game is over)  so that is less than 28 hours of coverage a month. That is a ripoff. For comast and at&t  u-verse it is included in the sports package which is only $4.99 a month which includes several other sports channels. Verizon shouldn't start overcharging on fios or there will be an exodus from the service

I agree, that is too much to pay for a channel that you'll only watch for one day a week. I was really excited to watch it on my new Samsung Ln52b750 TV.

All these posts crack me up.

Are any of you actual NFL fans? If you were, you'd realize $50 was a drop in the bucket for this.

What do you think of the people that drop $60 for a 3 hour UFC fight? Or a WWE event? Hmmm?

Sure, Comcast has it in their sports packages, but 95% of their regions aren't getting this in HD. Besides, all the other channels that their sports packages provide, we are already getting with Extreme HD.

If you are a true fan, then this channel is worth every penny (and more).

I had no problem paying 50 bucks for it. I think it's a great channel.

I have to agree with the OP.  I came to FiOS from Dish Network because of the downward spiral of "frugality" that was killing Dish Network.

As much as I love FiOS, part of me feels a little silly to think that Dish is now offering RedZone for free in the package that I used to subscribe to, and that package is certainly not $50 more than what I'm paying for FiOS.  I just can't understand where the $50 price tag came from, especially when looking at how it's being offered at other companies.

I think the channel costs so much because there's no sports tier to spread the cost around. At least I know that my money isn't going to the greedy NFL since I don't subscribe to Red Zone. Well, at least besides the $5 per month ESPN charges, the $1 per month for NFL Network, plus the retransmission fees for the local FOX, CBS, and NBC stations in my market. Okay, at least no more of my money is going to them. Smiley Wink

If I was a hardcore fan though, a little under $3 per Sunday really isn't that bad.

I totally  agree with the RED ZONE being a ripoff but, since DIRECTV is the ONLY outlet for the games we will only get second best. When the NFL is convinced only a minority have DIRECTV will we have the REAL thing.

First, don't single out Verizon, ALL the carriers are charging that amount. And if you do the math, $5 a month for 12 months is $60 so Comcast subscribers are actually paying more.

I am a huge football fan but personally I could care less about this channel. I don't need to see every single score and if I want highlights of the great ones I'll just watch ESPN for free.

Well you don't have to keep it for 12 months. You can cancel the sports package after 4 months on comcast. It is not bound by a 1 year contract. I have ordered the sports package once on comcast to watch a thursday night game on nfl network and cancelled the next so I was only charged a few pennies for it since it was prorated.  But comcast got smart so they now charge $2 for each time you change your service over the phone. If you go to their office and do it then there is no charge.

Even if you keep it for the full 4 months it is only $20. 60% cheaper than fios.
