Got a new STB for HD, qip-7101 with a new sony bravia. Got verizon extreme HD service. When I connect with during sony's setup and HDMI cable, no signal. However, if I use the coax cable it works! What's the deal? The quality isn't good but I have tv for now.

the coax input is usually channel 3, if you plug an hdmi cable in, it doesn't immediately pull hdmi or hd signal and you have to manually change the input FROM channel 3 to the HDMI source. best thing to do is use the sony bravia controller to do this. find a button that says either HDMI, input or source and hit it, look on your screen for the input selection and choose the hdmi selection. you may have several hdmi's show up, try ALL OF THEM.
if you are on the right hdmi selection and you still get no signal, then power off both stb and the tv, start the TV first, wait for it to come on and then start the cable box. if STILL no picture, then your tv might just not like the hdmi and the cable box (incompatible hdmi) and you will want to change cables. that means don't use the HDMI and instead use the component cables they are also HD And look stunning.

If your Bravia is like mine, you have to press menu, then external inputs, and choose Video 6 for the rear HDMI input.

Most Bravias should automatically pic up the active hdmi input for you. Try connecting to the Sony update to get the most current filmware for the TV. If that doesnt work your only options are to call CSR and try to get a new box and hope that one doesnt have handshake issue or use component cables, which can be a pain becaus you need audio cables as well plus the pic is better on HDMI, your final option which I did, is to switch to a tivo unit. The pic is better on tivo and no handshake problems.
