I am unable to verify my phone number for apple arcade to get my free period. It tells me that my number can't be verified and to contact Verizon.

I have the same issue as well.
We're sorry to read that you're having an issue with signing up for Apple arcade. Is this on the Verizon or Apple site? ~Peter

Open Settings App on your device
Click on your initials or picture at the top
Click Subscriptions
Scroll down to 'Verizon Plan Benefits'
Select Arcade and follow instructions.
