Verizon $50 gift card not redeemable - is this bad business practices?!

As a new customer to Verizon, I was promised a $50 gift card after x months. I received an email verifying that the time is now and went to the web site to claim the card, as directly; however, when I click on the "Redeem" box, it simply reloads the page. The chat function does not address anything other than robotic responses to general questions. Help needed!
